new spell elements

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 10:14 pm

hm....would be cool if we had more elements when it came to spells. or like different types of energys .. like using dark, water , earth, wind, steel types of spells..... what do you guys think?(dark energy would make being a black mage cool)

yeah i kinda feel its time to break away from the typical fire, shock, frost, template and add some more elements, especially since destruction feels like it needs more spells. no telling how they would handle it in the next game though

In previous games there were more. There were spells to drain life, stamina or magic. Or to simply damage those things, no drain but more damage. There also used to be spells to conjure armor and more fortifications as well as spells to see in the dark (not light spells such as magelight that screw your stealth). Mages got a bit of the short stick in Skyrim really. Esp with spell creation getting the axe.

I weep for the days we mages had more options and spell crafting is essential as well.
I liked the drain spells.
I also really liked the direct damage spells.
We lost fortifying stats and skills.
More spells too like slowfall, jump, mark/recall, poison, command, more summons, water walking, dispel and so many more.

I do like the idea of more elements above. Summoning a tornado would be epic.

It was, all the old spells added so much RP value.
Now we have a gutted system that barely fits the word magic in an ES game.

You are one of the newer people here that actually get it. More is more less is less.

Yeah, well I'm new posting. But I remember Morrowind and all the crazy things you could make. People think Oblivion was crazy (although I abused the heck out of my Fortify Health, Magic and Stamina plus Max Aegis and regen), but Morrowind you could add like 7 or 8 effects. Fun times.

And Night Eye plus detect life and chameleon on one spell was incredibly useful when dungeon crawling as a stealthy

Oh yes Morrowind had so many more options than Oblivion and I do not understand why people seem to think less is more, you know I have had a few people actually tell me that with a weak and invalid argument to back it up.

Its boggling really. At least for me, once you've run through all the quests a half dozen times, the reply value comes from customization. Spell crafting was a major part of that, the heart of it for a mage. Yeah, you can pick different skill trees to progress through to mix things up a bit. But have a deep crafting mechanic including expansive enchanting, alch and spell craft you can totally change how your character behaves in gameplay. More so than preset combat skills.

And yeah, I've seen a couple of those people in that other thread.

Yea its preposterous. You had thousands of options at your finger tips and could fine tune any spell you want. It did add replay in that no mage or spellsword and Nightblade felt the same they was all different and diverse. We could mix and match any combination of effects we wanted in the game. It was very manipulation of the arcane arts threw scientific study.

I do not understand people are satisfied with this simplistic system compared to the other games, its even more dumb founding when older players thing its ok the last system was to spread sheety. Really?
