New textures, going to up the resolution !

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 11:02 am

So I already had one thread, where I asked about textures. I remember that Ray said before, that only 256x256 or smaller textures are accepted. I however saw 512x512 textures in the game files so how is this possible ? I think I am going to recreate some of the games textures and crank the resolution up for better graphics. Who would like this ?
I would like update the graphics, maybe to new level. Is it possible to remap the textures ? I mean if i crank the res up, I would have to remap 'em right ?
Well the textures are pretty cool looking, there's much to be improved without resolution change but still it would be neat to have 512x512 flames in the candles instead of the 128x128 lousy candle light.
I hope someone would respond, I know this forum is pretty quiet, but something must be done to enhance this awesome game. Someone must know, and could maybe help me. I'm looking for texture guys, and probably if I find any way to change the games models, modellers.
Let's bring this game's graphics to the 2010 level !

I can do a little modeling and texturing, but I don't own the PC version of the game yet. I'd be happy to help if you can find a way to insert new assets. I'd love to mod this game! :)

There's already a way to change textures. Models however, I'm not sure. I can provide you with svcklead's DCoTETexture Extractor.

i'd love to join, but only if i know that you could actually do it.
making 512x512 maps shouldnt be that hard., hell, why stop at 512x512, why not 1024x1024 :P
"I would like update the graphics, maybe to new level" do you mean by adding normal maps?
" Is it possible to remap the textures " im not sure, but with that svcklead dcotetexture extractor i noticed that there is also an import button

anyways, i have some experience modeling, and a little experience with texturing

Ok. I'll tuck it away for when I get a PC version. [Gimme gimme!] :)

Well, now I feel like a doof. Nice models. Very Mythos.

I made a http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=29014. That's, like, way cooler. :hehe:

Cool. Does anyone know some good .dds converter, because mine crashes occasionally ?
Esepablo I think that you can't use over 512x512 textures in CoC, it's the limit. I remember Ray saying before, that 256x256 was the limit, but I have seen textures larger than that. I don't know why Headfirst made the textures so low resolution, I mean many of them are under or exactly 128x128, even though they could crank it up to 4 times the resolution. Well have you tried putting the resolution up ?
Btw I used the 3D ripper, and it's very neat. Shame that 3DS Max crashes, saying not enough RAM to load the files (I have 3GB :P). Well maybe I'll need to get x64 operating system.
I also PMed Ray if I could get some of his things, like the Multiplayer mod, and continue it. My friends have pretty good hold on C++ and I'm learning it too.
Looking forward to get this game better. Maybe fix bugs someday ?

EDIT: Decided to post something about my experience: I 've been modelling for 1 year now, making everything related to space. I also can program VB.NET, and a little C++, and Python. I am currently learning C++, Python, and Delphi. I have also had some experience in making sounds, and textures.

dds converter? not sure, but im using a dds plugin for photoshop.
ill have to experiment with the texture sizes
i was on a 32-bit 1gb and 3d ripper never crashed on me, (are you ripping them out as .obj's?)

ill post the results later on

also, if anyone needs the .dds textures let me know, i have them i just need to compress them and upload them
448 mb would be compressed down to about 100mb via 7zip for faster download time.

or if anyone needs models ripped out i could try to get them to you

It would be cool if we could change the models ^^
Btw do you know any way to modify the animation files (.AI1, .AI2 etc.) ? Because I'd so like to replace the animation with the asylum guy at the first video, because his shirt is clipping inside his legs.
Where's Ray when you need him ? :D

bad news, seems like just increasing the size does nothing (i only got a blank black texture)

i think we might have to change the uv size on the models, just a guess though

if you are in need of ray, i thinki have him on facebook. ill send him a message to drop by

actually, i think ray gave up on coc:dcote :(

It has same problems as any PC version. They're all the same, because no patch was released.
