New Tradeskills: Too Compliated?

Alright, one of the really exciting things about NV is the addition of custom weapons and ammo... but is it really all too much at a time? The process of making complete rounds is pretty complex for what you get from it, as is creating food. Gun addons are nice, but we had this kind of stuff as FO3 addons.

I would tie it to difficulty. The normal difficulties should have some streamlined ammo creation, hardcoe should have the complex system.

Also, the interface is WAY too clunky. The workbench model just doesn't function well with the large goofy console-UI and multiple ingredients then pressing "a" to process for some reason. Thanks for taking us down three pegs, consoles. Even Dead Rising 2 had better weapons creation.

I'm just not happy with the end result; too much effort for the outcome.

Then don't use the crafting system?

Thanks for the constructive feedback, you're really quite helpful.

I see this as room in the game for modding early on.

I don't own New Vegas yet (UK gamer), but this is one of the major aspects of the game that intrigues me. I've always enjoyed modifying equipment (enchanting in Elder Scrolls particularly). As a console gamer it's great this has been included to the vanilla game, it sounds quite deep which is good. From what you're saying though it sounds like there should definitely be difficulty options around it.

PS: don't blame consoles for reducing the PC UI, blame Obsidian for not changing it. Many multiplatform games come with an improved UI for the PC versions.

I agree that the process is a bit complex, but I think it brings the game back to it's RPG roots. My only MINOR peeve are the control keys in various menus are different. Would it be too difficult to have the same keys "Accept" and/or "Exit" from all the menus? I keep automatically stabbing the wrong key and wondering why nothing happens...

I can't see how consoles would be to blame for this, as I would expect the same button to do the same thing in menus playing them as well.

Idk i dont think its TOO hard but yeah it is quite confusing at first. i own guns so it MIGHT have been easier for me because i know the basic breakdown of ammo perhaps?...in any event i kinda had to stare at the different screens for a few minutes and figure it out....im gathering you figured it out now though?

say you wanna make .357 ammo and you have brass for it..well check what you need on the recipies..say for instance you only need lead for it..well then go back to the breakdown in the menu and destroy some scrap metal for the lead (gives you like 600 lead) and rinse and repeat for all the compounds for ammo (you can breakdown ammo like 9mm for say .357 or smaller caliber rifle ammo)..its actually quite intuitive once you get the hang of it and you can have some SERIOUS firepower if you invest in the right skills....im from the camp that this game should be harder to survive and make caps so one of the first things i did was started working my head around ammo crafing...

But for folks who just cant seem to get it they should have put it in the manual i suppose...although there is a (somewhat vague) worded tutorial when you first hit a bench if i remember correctly.

oh well more money for the survival guide LOL!

I say it's better to have it even if some people won't gonna use it. I know I will because I like this sort of feature. Some recipes may require many ingredients and you have to look around for them. But it's quite useful, for example, to cook stuff, especially in the beginning when playing with hardcoe mode on. Bottom line: I absolutely like this feature.
