New Vegas 1.2 crash on startup - one cause found

Post » Tue Apr 12, 2011 2:05 am

Since downloading 1.2 via Steam tonight, I've experienced an immediate crash to desktop on startup of NV after selecting "Play Game" from the launch menu. I solved it by removing ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated! mod, which I downloaded from NV Nexus. Doing so allowed me to launch the game and play.

This is unfortunate, because it was one helluva useful mod. If there is a version of it out there that does not kill 1.2, please point it out.

Meanwhile, back to the stone age of messing around with ArchiveInvalidation.txt.

Some other people have reported a crash on start up with ArchiveInvalidated as well after the 1.2 patch.
This can be fixed by moving it down the list in the fallout_default.ini file, like so.

SArchiveList=Fallout - Meshes.bsa, Fallout - Voices1.bsa, Fallout - Sound.bsa, Fallout - Misc.bsa, AII-FNV!.bsa, Fallout - Textures.bsa, Fallout - Textures2.bsa

Or you could use FOMM (Fallout Mod Manager) and use the ArchiveInvalidated from that.
I'm using FOMM myself and having no problems. :)

Seems more like an underlying engine issue than an issue with AII.

Game crashes on startup for me repeatedly anywhere from 3-6 times before it loads.
This started with the 1.2 patch and Im running a standard install of FNV - no mods and no tweaking.

This is the downside of Steam - auto-updates is great until it forces a patch on you that wasn't properly
tested.

Yep, I love this game.... When it works :sadvaultboy: which seems to be rare after the last patch making me frustrated with this game. So many possibilities, but too many crashes... Grrrr! :brokencomputer:

Windows XP Professional 32-bit SP3
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 @ 3.16GHz
4GB Dual-Channel DDR2
ASUS P5Q DELUXE (LGA 775)
1024MB ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series

OK, good to know. I noticed that the BSA name is different from the one I used. Where can the newer version of AII be obtained? Can't seem to find it on Nexus.

That was the solution to get it working with the new patch that Bethesda/Obsidian dumped on us to test for them. It didn't work with the default naming or whatever it was originally set to for you and renaming it fixed it. I'd imagine the OP just renamed it to AII. There hasn't been any new versions of it released as far as i'm aware.

The 1.2 patch screwed me over. Click play and the game instantly caused an app exception (thanks for that Obsidian guys). Remive archive invalidation, and the problem remained, although it took about half a second longer to get the app exception. Went into steam client, library, right clicked on New Vegas, under games, brought up properties, selected the local files tab, clicked the Verify Integrity of Game Cache button. The steam client confirmed that there were 625 files that were different and then proceded to download about 1GB worth of content.

Seems to be working now, though.

Will reinstall AII now and see if it still works.

I checked the integrity of the game and STEAM reported that′s ok! However, if the "bInvalidateOlderFiles=1" in the ini file, the game crashs on startup.

He just runs with "bInvalidateOlderFiles=0".

Does anyone know what might be happening?
