is New Vegas like New Reno?

They seem exactly alike. Except New Reno was ran by 4 mafia families, and New Vegas is ran by NCR or something? Or maybe New Vegas isn't ran by NCR.

I do hope they're similar, and I hope they have bodyguards like this:

Some of the themes will be similar for sure, but I think (at least for the Strip itself) it will pretty different as Mr House seems to be intent on trying to control what goes on and keeping stuff maintained. Whereas New Reno was basically a hell-hole.

Some of what I fear the most for New Vegas though is that too much of the silly stuff (over-the-top mafia stereotypes, a population that consists basically only of prosttutes and junkies, mobsters with tommy-guns and feodora hats) will return.

I agree on the stereotypes. But in a way, I want New Vegas to have that Googie Ratpack feel like they claim instead of ' 'EY VINNIE CHECK OUT MA NEW GUN' type of characters. I don't mind mobsters, but I dont want a bad 'guido' stereotype

The Strip, I feel, is Mr. Houses attempt at a vague 'See this? This is how it was in my day.' Kind of feel.

Isn't the "new" in front of the name kind becoming an ongoing thing now? New Arroyo, New Reno, and (not specific to actual places) the New California Republic being some of them.

Yep, usually New implies the re-start or their idea of a city/county in a new location. NEW York, NEW California Republic NEW eh [censored] it, its near 9 AM and Im to tired to think of 'new' places

I have no doubt in my mind that they used Fallout 2's New Reno as a guideline. And believe me, that's a good thing. :goodjob:

Hmm. What would pre-war new Mexico be now? New New Mexico? Or has it been renamed already?

Ahh, thanks. I actually haven't played FO2, and I haven't beaten the first one yet. I'm busy with other things, but I'll get to them soon! So really, I've earned most things from the Wiki. It's so addicting.

Lol, my statement was a joke. New Mexico isnt in F2. I believe it's CA, OR and NV it takes place in. But if I remember, the states we knew, were converged into territorys or colonys, or was it a speculation? I dont remember, I need to do a Pre-War history brushup.

There may be some similar themes to the places, I could see, certainly, New Vegas seems like it could allow Obsidian to explore some similar themes to New Reno, at the same time, though, the fact that we have Mister House in control instead of multiple different families who are each hostile to each other will allow the designers to explore somewhat different dynamics. And considering that New Reno was a cause of some controversy among fans as to whether it was a good idea or not, I think Obsidian might downplay some of the similar aspects, especially the stereotypes.

I think it will be cleaner than New Reno with the sercitrons (spelling?) Keeping order on the streets i think the dirt will go down behind the closed doors of the casinos which forgive the pun will play by there own rules.

I mean there were hokers everywhere in new reno and the robot kicked those nice NCR girls outta the fountin in Vegas

And didnt they say Benny was head of the Gecko family so im sure well see a return of mob familys and hopfully become a made man

i want that fedorra and i want it to mean something!
