new vegas wont work : Fallout: New Vegas

i just got new vegas today and wont work i can use the menu and watch the cut seen but after it is done loading i get an error saying new vegas has stoped working

Well the most notable thing I saw in your diagnostics output was that DXDIAG crashed the previous time you tried to run it - so this might not actually be something related to the game bugs/stablity issues. It still could be related to engine/driver compatability issues and engine/codec issues though so it might not be a general issue with your machine, but here are some things to look at.

1) Your graphics driver is a little out of date. Download the latest catalyst driver suite from http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx.

2) You have some less common 3rd party direct show filters loaded. Try running the http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35868 but be sure to read all the instructions including setting up a system restore point.

3) I put this third even though it is not the most likely fix for your problem it is still one of the easiest potential fixes. You can also try to "https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335" through steam. This will detect and replace corrupt game files (which may have been corrupted during patching.) If you repeatedly fail validation on 1 file (an install script) this is normal and it is a false-positive. Ignore such a repeated failed validation. If it repairs more files than just that one, then there is a good chance that one of those files was causing your problem.

4) You have a rather large page file useage but that normally just suggests a lot of background processes. These may or may not be related to your crashes. You can perform a "http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135t" to try to see if this is your problem.

5) Other drivers may be out of date too- check your computer manufacturer site for updated sound card/chipset drivers specifically. Do NOT use their video drivers unless the Catalyst drivers fail to install for some reason. ATI/AMD drivers direct form their site will usually be a little more up to date than those on the manufacturer website - particularly because some manufacturers cease updating their databases for older (as little as 2 years for some) products despite newer drivers being made availible by the OEMs.

(EDIT): Your audio drivers appear to be very out of date. Unfortunately the PnP info pulled by windows does not appear to be sufficient to identify the hardware, but assuming it is the oldest possible VIA chipset then it is still over 1 year out of date (last revision was october 2010). In fact the driver is so out of date it does not appear to be properly identifying what the device and vendor ID indicate is a RealTek integrated audio device and appears to be using generic drivers. Normally your best shot might seem to be to go to your motherboard manufacturer's site (guessing Asus) but they are notoriously bad about updating their 3rd party driver lists. Strangely, the installed audio drivers are for a device other than the one which is identified in the PCI bridge device ID list. The device ID does not match any I could find in PnP databases either. The PCI device ID (along with using your processor type and the subsystem ID numbers to verify that the device I found matched the possible motherboards) was more helpful and I am now fairly certain that I found the newest driver.

You should download the Windows 7 64 bit drivers (may be listed as 64/32 bit combined installer). The latest update was actually TODAY. If it takes you to the default page instead of the download page then (on the left side) click:

1) Computer Peripherial IC's (may require to you click "accept" user agreement and click next)
2) PC Audio Codecs
3) High Definition Audio Codcs
4) Software

Yes it is stupid- the drivers are under "codecs". Anyways after you have done that you should be able to locate the drivers and download them. My identifying this as the correct driver is based on the device ID and manufacturer ID information in your DXDIAG output and I double checked the manufacturer sites for what I have identified as your most likely motherboard (Asus M4A785TD) and this is the driver you should get for all subtypes of that board. To be safe though you can always roll back using system restore as long as you have not disabled it. I would go ahead and create a manual restore point before doing this just in case.

Yeah except the audio drivers in this case are the generic drivers that shipped with the board - normally I would agree though. The only thing that makes me think it might be something else besides the video driver is that I've never seen a slightly out of date video driver cause a DXDIAG fail to complete (the output notes that last run attempt failed in later stage of test).

(EDIT) nevermind that is apparently an error that can happen sometimes and is intermittent.
