newb question: Do rooms reset?

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 5:40 pm

Hello~
I'm using the enchant station in Dragonsreach and wondering if I can just leave my buff enchant clothing/ring/circlet there? It's a pain going to the house and switching stuff out when I'm ready to enchant my gear.
How about next to the forge just past the gate? Can I leave my smithing clothes/ring near the forge or something? Or will it eventually get zapped?
thanks

i left some ingots in barrel next to the smithing in solitude for a few days and left them. when i returned the barrel had re-set and they were gone. so, if it's not an owned container, i wouldn't trust it.

right, I've read about the containers resetting but how about just lying on the floor/ground? I used to do that in fallout, left a bunch of armor on the ground in front of gunrunners ... kind of a bank of 'ready to sell' stuff. It would sit there for weeks/months.

I kno items i leave in dungeons are still there when i go back (stupid carrying capacity limit lol), but idk about towns. I didnt want 2 risk anything, so i bought a house. Also, stealing items in houses or outside shops has never been reset on me, but that just might be my game (w/ all the glitches and what-not).

I've been storing my stuff at that secret room in the inn at Riverwood, so far my stuff is still there but it hasn't been long.

If you don't own it, you shouldn't trust it. Besides, it's not that big a deal.... fast travel to Dragonsreach, fast travel to Whiterun.... little jog in between to the enchanter table or the house....

well I've tested this out. so far the skull I left on the floor next to the enchant table has remained there for 20 in-game days. I think that's probably safe enough.

I've also gotten into the habit of picking up every skull I can lay hands on and dropping it on the street in whiterun. The street in front of the smithy is almost knee deep at this point LOL.

Kind of screws with load time though.

It might not seem like a big deal but I try to reduce the number of scene change delays (fast travels and entering a building) where possible. those 20-30 second waits add up after a while.

I'm absolutely positive that stuff left laying around is safe. You only have to worry when you drop them into a container as many of those have respawn timers.

Unfortunately (fortunate though in your sake), Bethesda still has yet code NPCs with sticky fingers. Heck, I quickly dropped the crap armor you get when you join the imperial legion right there on the ground, and a bum asked politely if he could have the armor before picking up each piece. You can steal something from someone in this game, and drop it right in front of them and they'll leave it.

I've had stuff disappear from containers in holds but as for dungeons once its marked as cleared it does't reset.
