Newly discovered dungeon - do i enter?

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 12:55 pm

Hey, obviously while wondering around i discover a new dungeon or ruin, is it me, or does anybody else feel like they "shouldnt" explore it.. due to it may ruin a quest later based there?
how does everybody go about it?

Also, artifacts found in dungeons etc, are they level scaled once you find it? or are they certain stats all round?

is there a way to make a item which is scaled depending on the level you aquire it, is there a way to keep it "updated?" with me as i level?

you can explore it if you want, if you think it may ruin a quest just be careful when looting chests if there's some items with unusual names (they may be quest related) or check the wiki

Yeah, this is part of what ruined exploring for me. On my latest character, I have two quests which bugged out because I visited the dungeons before I'd received the quests for them. Now they're stuck on my "to-do" quest list instead of being filed neatly under "completed".

The game was made for you to explore so explore! whether u wreck a quest then woops, u'l find out about it then  besides, it seems like this is your first playthrough and probably not the last, at least u'l know what to look out for next time.

I have the cleansing of the thane book stuck in my inventory >.< Got it when exploring bleak falls barrow of all places doing the main quest haha but yeah i tend to "not" explore dungeons that are quest related and the UESPwiki is my best friend in that regard

I'd also avoid killing the leader/boss of the dungeon, as they are usually related to some quest.

an not documented playing guides: always lookup wiki before you ventured into a new location, especially the bug section.

otherwise, you may endup you can't continue some quests due to you already explored the area, killed something, looted something, etc.

mostly in my playtru,s i avoid newly discovered dungeons expecially if im in the middle of a guild questline several reasons for this are
that i dont want running scripts too interfear with my current questline that could possibly make my game lag or stutter 1 paticular dungeon style i like too avoid are Snowy Dungeons my experience that if i enter such dungeon i run into framerate problems, its seems
too be severe more than if i exploring a dungeon made out of stone work, so too avoid complications i dont enter newly discovered dungeons.

often i return when im done with the current questline and made a stable savegame

yes, the snowy ones in fancy looking places. there was one i think maybe brittleshin pass where theres a spiral tower thing with light shining on it that goes down into a big room with skeletons. My game lags up like a [censored] in that spot. Also bleak falls at the snowy bridge with the draugr on it and the waterfall underneath

seems like alot of work to avoid bugging the gane :P .. so before i explore any dungeon, look it up to see if i can kill the boss or if it have any quest purpose?
Surely not all dungeons are quest related, just seems a pain to have to "look it up" all the time.

Never thought about it. I dive in into all new dungeons. I will check the Wiki to see which dungeon I should put on hold. Thanks for the hint.

I usually check wiki first. If it is >2 zones, I wait until i have the quest. Otherwise, there is either a wall blocking you from clearing it, or else everybody but the boss is there. Sometimes you get the quest item b4 the quest but you won't accidentally sell it. Then when you get the Q you immediately say "oh, this thing?" and complete it.

I actually think it makes the game feel more Morrowindish and dynamic.

I have always explored ruins, caves, forts etc in every TES I've played, i have never had a problem where it has broken a quest. I believe if you somehow come across a quest item in Skyrim before you even start the quest, it is added to your journal and you cannot drop the item anyway.

Go ahead and explore, that is one of TES strong points, do not miss out.

There are a number of dungeons where you find quest items. Most of the time, the items have a name, so that should alert you. I take them, and have about 8 quest items in my inventory now.

I've not had any problems, yet, playing it this way. Although other players have had problems - so it's a crap-shoot.

Also, there are 3-4 dungeons that will tell you that you need a key to enter. Those dungeons are only accessible via a quest.

If you go to this website and use the search box on the top left, type in the dungeon name, and if a quest is needed to enter, it will tell you.

It will usually also tell you if there's a quest item to be found and what quest it's related to.

Good luck.

If I'm on a wander I'll go up to it to the point of "discovering" the location, then I typically back away and keep exploring.

I'm level 65 with most of the map filled in, and there are still solid black locations popping up now and then, sometimes from a comment from an Imperial guard!

Alternatively, just live with the fact that you might not be able to do every quest you come across.

I tend to think about it more like this: would my character want to go into the cave? Are they on their way somewhere else (in which case, probably not), or specifically looking for some loot (in which case, dive on in)?

I go for it. I like to clear all the dungeons, caves and what not and the best way of knowing if I have done it is to clear the dungeon once it fills in on my map. If I have to go back then so be it and if the dungeon is now bugged then tough.
