Next Dragon Age Will be a Skyrim clone

Some of the things in DA that I think would make good additions to TES are:

Companion tactics rule sets
Companion interactions and relationships
The comprehensive story telling

It would be great news if the industry decided to raise the standard of open world RPG's to Skyrim's level. This might force Bethesda developed titles to an even greater standard, possibly pushing it back to the depth and diversity of Morrowind.

I am going to ignore every other post here and just say I liked Dragon Age 2 and I'm pleased by the thought of the next Dragon Age game learning a few things from Skyrim, and I'm interested to see what they come up with.

Dragon Age 2 failed when it came to exploration, gear, and, to a lesser extent, atmosphere, but after playing both it and Origins through several times (enough to where story and exploration just don't matter since I'm completely familiar with everything) I have to say I prefer DA2's combat. It's extremely challenging, but still logical and ultimately fair, its classes are balanced better, and there is considerable depth in character building once you have to get under the hood and start optimizing your builds for the highest difficulty levels. I think if DA3 can blend that gameplay (minus the absurd enemy wave spawning) with Skyrim's breadth and Bioware's usual awesome storytelling, it will be a good game (though it might not be able to match the feel of Origins, there's something about that game that's difficult to quantify, DA2 is cartoonish in comparison.) I'll also be a lot more optimistic if ME3 doesn't svck (I thought ME2 was great.)

Like Bioware now or not, think of it this way.. They're RPGs fans just like all of us. If some of the main team is saying they're enjoying Skyrim right now, they're not just saying it as players (like some of us are.. or maybe most of us). They're also developers. And rather than outright stealing ideas, they probably think like most developers. "This is badass.. but what if I could do this and this. Hmm.. wait. I can write that probably."

So anyways.. it's not a bad thing if they're inspired. They're already a great rpg developer as it is (even if you discount DA2).

Never going to happen. What Bioware wants, is not what EA orders their [censored] to do. I've seen numerous conflicting orders/people/desires/information from the forums right up to the top of EA/Bioware Lead developer ect. Bioware has a tendancy to want to do things and EA doesn't ever let them. Whipped.

Edit
As another forumite said, I'll believe it when I see it. Lately Bioware is just a train wreck with a few things. TOR seems to be turning this around somewhat, but it has a lot invested in to it as well. I consider it an exception to the EA/Bioware paradigm.

I don't care what Bioware do to DA, as long as they don't screw up Mass Effect 3

Bioware can't pull off open-world, sure they can have really big areas, they still have linear progression.

As long as they don't railroad me into being a Warden I will like DA3. Granted I love DA2 as much as DAO so I am in the small minority but gods do I /hate/ the Wardens.

I see this as just a marketing move. Skyrim is hot right now, and they're trying to say "hey we're like them too!" to get in on some of the good press.

Color me skeptical.

I like Mass Effect and Dragon Age can't wait for Mass Effect 3 DA3 and the Witcher. Until then Skyrim and New Vegas are the only games i'm playing. BioWare makes great games to ,there more story and character driven and that's fine as long as it's done well, i haven't played a BioWare game i didn't like.

I loved both Dragon Ages but for different reasons. The first one had a stronger atmosphere, a more heroic/epic story and some cool features that I missed in the second one, but Dragon Age II had better characters, it looked sharper and smoother, it sounded a lot better and it had (to me) a more emotional/gripping story and much, much better combat.

I think The Old Republic has taught Bioware a lot about more open environments and if they are inspired by Skyrim, I think they could come up with something more akin to Divinity II. That game had a clear progressive storyline, but it also had very big areas to explore, allowing you to stumble upon a ruin or a dungeon by accident. Combine that with Bioware's superior lore, dialogue and party-based combat, and Dragon Age III would be something fresh and awesome that blows 1 & 2 away, in my opinion.

After the success of Skyrim, EA might well let them try something more open world. Assuming they can keep it under budget, at least... DA2's biggest problem was probably that they were trying to add so many features, they weren't able to get many of them right/devote time to parts of the game that were lacking. Add open world to the mix, and you've got a recipe for disaster.

The first one had ... a more heroic/epic story ... but Dragon Age II ... had (to me) a more emotional/gripping story...
Thank you! I'm sick of people saying DA2's story svcked. For all its faults (and there were many), I love the fact that BioWare got away from the epic formula that plagues most of their games. If you strip the stories to their basic structure, the Mass Effect trilogy and DA:O are basically the same, while DA2 went a lot more ambiguous with things. The only drawback was that DA2's story didn't make me want to replay the game. Normally that's a huge negative for me, but I thought it was well done enough that I can get over it.

That said, Bioware games are usually what I play when I'm on a break from Elder Scrolls...

I get the feeling BioWare likes the amount of money Beth made more then the gameplay itself. What is happening, BioWare? Dragon Age: Origins made plenty of money!

Copy and pasted to the bigger thread that won't get closed lol.

The DA2 story gripped me until the end.. I can't wrap around it. But then, it's kind of a cliffhanger, so maybe I'm not supposed to.

The characters were great though. The game is win alone just for Varric really.

Dragon Age II's bad design, with Bethesda's lack of reactivity and interraction (bad)? or Origin's good writing and characters along with Bethesda's finely tuned world-building skills (good)? Time will tell.

But I doubt it'll be option number 2 if they try to make a 50 hours RPG in a year again.

Oh please, as much as I love Origins Bioware would fail at making a game like TES. You can't even jump in Dragon Age.

this isnt a creatively bankrupt attempt to jump on the bandwagon at all...

Dragon Age 3: Goku's Return wont have anything "inspired" from skyrim. beth made a game that sold more than DA2 so now theyre blurting out whatever they can to leech off some of those customers. nothing has really been announced about da3 and nobody asked them, so the only reason to suddenly announce that "hey you like skyrim we can be skyrim too just give us a chance baby" is just to garner interest from skyrim money dispens- er, customers.

Actually, I think Bioware got better and better over time. I may be the only person in the universe who feels that way, but I don't care, it's my honest opinion.
The Old Republic is pretty much my personal dream game made reality :)

Also..Dragon Age 2's story was awful. It wasn't "emotionally gripping." It was a string of random ass events barely connected to eachother.

I disagree, maybe in the time period from DA2 to TOR they got better.

@TwistedBlack, The lore in DA2 overshadowed pretty much everything in the game

A mix of DA:Origins and Skyrim would be a dream for me.
Maybe add a little of Blizzard-style itemization, and I will start drooling...
