I think the Patriots did very well, based on their needs and their willingness to trade up. I want to see some offense tonight, though.

I wasn't too excited about Claiborne, but it is what it is. I hope he lives up to his expectations. I was really hoping for Barron.

As much as it pains me I like what the Vikings did Thursday, They got 3 picks to move back one spot and still got the guy they wanted, then used some of those picks to get back into the end of the 1st and fill another need at safety.

The Seahwaks are a disaster up until the Russell Wilson pick which I like.

Not sure what the Jags and Colts are doing. A punter in the 3rd round for the Jags, really? I think you have more holes than that. Also the Colts have no one who can play in their new 3-4 defense and they have drafted 2 TEs.

That boggles the mind. You have to wonder if the Colts were influenced by the Patriots success with Gronkowski and Hernandez and are looking to emulate them. I just don't get it.

RGIII does better than Luck, says I. Luck is a kid, and he's not capable of running the entire organization like Manning was.
RG III, however, will be surrounded by team-mates and staff that know what the heck they are doing. He'll do well.

Cowboys made some wise picks. Focus on fixing up that D.

I'm curious what you base this on.

Luck is, supposedly, the best QB prospect since Elway. Note that that means he is a better prospect than Manning. Luck was a fantastic NFL prospect since he was a freshman; he would have been the #1 pick a year ago if he came out. Luck called more of his own plays in college than any collegiate player in a long time, including Manning. The Colts organization has undergone a complete overhaul making a guy like Manning who was also a de facto O coordinator, not only unneeded, but probably unwanted. The only red flag on Luck is that his college teammates weren't that good so he didn't consistently show he could make some NFL throws, specifically outside the numbers and down field. There is no logical reason to think Luck won't be a successful NFL QB He might not be great, but I can't imagine any way he isn't very good.

As for RGIII. What makes you think he will be "surrounded by team-mates and staff that know what the heck they are doing."? The Redskins are one of the worst organizations in pro sports in recent history and Daniel Snyder has made D.C. a place that NFL careers go to die. Why would you assume that would change all of a sudden? Also RGIII basically came out of nowhere. In September he was a somewhat interesting and entertaining player coming off of a serious knee injury. He played a few great games and all of a sudden he is the next coming? I personally don't think so, though that could be my immediate bias about the Redskins. I do ask this though. Who is the last guy who flew up the draft charts like this who actually panned out? I can't think of anyone, but there is a good chance I am wrong.

Sorry Miller, but you know in your heart it is true.

You hear about http://www.wptv.com/dpp/sports/mohamed-sanu-gets-prank-phone-call-during-nfl-draft-with-cincinnati-bengals-on-the-clock

They eventually took him but you gotta wonder if it was a pity pick.

That is one of the biggest dike moves I have ever heard of. I hope the guy who made the call gets punched squarely in the nuts by Old Miss Karma.

Oh don't worry I agree, the Redskins are a piss poor origination for the most part. Still I think they could be a good team in a a year or two as long as RGIII pans out and they keep working on the rest of the team. I think he has the weapons to produce but the O-Line won't be helping him much. The running game could be better but I liked what I saw form Hightower, Helu, and even Royster last year. On the defensive side of the ball they're pretty solid. One of the best group of LBs in the league and should be even better as Kerrigan improves. D-Line was so-so last year but with Jarvis Jenkins finally playing it should improve a bit. DB's...... I'm a little afraid. DHall can be good but he can be real spotty at times and Josh Wilson while solid is no game changer. I'm going to miss Landry even if he was hurt a lot when he got on the field you know someone was going to get leveled.

I have high hopes for RGIII and I think he'll at least pan out well, but maybe not the rest of the team. I wouldn't be completely shocked if this all blew in the Redskins faces though, that's just the way things go for them.

The Kirk Cousins pick is a baffling. I guess they're planning on grooming him into a decent piece of trade bait. I'm also loving the fact that Lamichael ended up in a good situation. I think he'll be a Sproles like player for them maybe a little better.

Yeah I guess. Still doesn't make sense to me. They traded a huge number of draft picks for RG3, they shouldn't be worrying about grooming future trade bait, they need help now, especially at WR.

The 49ers are a decent team for him but they have a very full backfield, and a very good kick returner already. I am sure LaMichael will still end up making some plays but I'm not sure how much he gets on the field. I assume they are going to use him since they spent a 2nd on him (which is higher than I expected), but like I said they have Ginn. Gore is a very good receiver and blocker so they don't have to replace him on 3rd down. They also picked up Brandon Jacobs, who if healthy and happy will get a lot of carries spelling Gore. I'm just not sure where James fits in for more than a couple of touches a game.

Eh they have bigger concerns then finding a receiving core for him. I think the trio of Garcon, Moss, and Moragan is decent. Plus they have Fred Davis and maybe Cooley can get back to his old numbers. Helu is also decent at catching out of the backfield. RGIII could afford a couple more weapons but I think getting him some protection is more important.

Too bad about Seau.

Even more sad that Ray Easterling committed suicide last week and no one batted an eye. Easterling was a perfect textbook example of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronic_traumatic_encephalopathy, I have a feeling Seau will be as well. The one positive that may be that Seau is a bigger name than everyone else this has happened too (Duerson, Easterling, Andre Waters etc) and may make even more people aware of what is going on. This brain injury issue is going to continue to get worse and worse as time goes on and the NFL is going to have to address it in a real way; not by making silly rules changes like eliminating the kickoff but by mandating safer helmet and mouthpieces and putting independent doctors on every sideline for every play of every game. If the NFL ever mentions an 18 game schedule again they should be sued by every current and former player that has ever signed an NFL contract.

That got away from me a bit, but I feel very strongly about it.

Not that it lightens things up but this article is crazy
Junior Seau's death further saddens his 1994 Chargers teammates
By Les Carpenter | Yahoo! Sports – 1 hour 11 minutes ago

Once again the phones started to ring, former San Diego Chargers from the franchise's lone Super Bowl team calling each other and digesting the news that another one of them was gone. With word that Junior Seau died Wednesday, the number of Chargers who played in the Super Bowl on Jan. 29, 1995, and are now dead, is eight.

Eight in 18 years; too many in too little time.

The subject is one I discussed, somewhat uncomfortably, with several of the former Chargers in 2008. This wasn't long after Chris Mims, their gregarious defensive end, was found dead in his Los Angeles apartment. Five had died back then. And that seemed like a lot.

I called a professor of actuarial science at the University of Wisconsin to see if she could put number on five men from a 53-man roster – all in their 20s and 30s – dying in so short a time. She said the odds were less than 1 percent.

"Is this a curse or something?" center Courtney Hall said then. "I just hope I'm not next."

On Wednesday, Hall sounded drained. Hours of phone calls with teammates had tired him. And there lingered that sense of confusion over how so many men who would be in their 40s, who seemed so vibrant, are no longer alive.

"I'm still kind of processing everything right now," Hall said. "I had more to say back [in 2008] than I do now. I really am at a loss for words."

The unsettling thing about the Chargers' deaths is their randomness. Five months after the Super Bowl, running back David Griggs died in a car accident on an off-ramp of the Florida Turnpike that was no more than 10 minutes from where the game had been played at Joe Robbie Stadium. The next year, running back Rodney Culver and his wife died on a ValuJet crash in the Florida Everglades, also not far from Miami. In 1998 linebacker Doug Miller was struck twice by lightning while camping in Colorado. Backup center Curtis Whitley died of a drug overdose in 2008 only months before Mims died from an enlarged heart and heart disease. Linebacker Lew Bush and defensive tackle Shawn Lee had fatal heart attacks last year.

And now Seau. The irony is that as a player he might have been the liveliest of them all – the first one to laugh, the one with the biggest smile, the biggest star – and to hear reports he had killed himself? It didn't make sense.

"The thing I related to everybody is that we are a brotherhood of those of us who played football," Hall said Wednesday. "We developed bonds and dealt with the same issues and the same ups and downs. For me, I've gotten to the point where I wish we as a group of elite athletes are able to reach out to each other more and are able to talk about what's going on in our lives."

Back in 2008, Hall talked about looking for some of his Chargers teammates. He found tight end Deems May on LinkedIn and asked the team for the phone numbers of other former players. Some of those may have been the same men he spoke with Wednesday.

Perhaps there's nothing anyone can do about a plane crash or someone getting hit by lightning twice, but so many of the other deaths seemed preventable. Tackle Stan Brock wondered in 2008 how Whitley could die alone in a trailer. "Where were his friends?" he asked. Mims suffered from weight problems and became depressed before his death. Lee was reported to have had weight and other health issues when he died.

Could phone calls have helped? Should they have been calling Seau and checking on him? Hall wonders. He said several of his teammates did too.

"In general we talked about getting together and reaching out to one another," he said. "I woke up this morning in pain [from old football injuries]. Everyone deals with everything differently."

He seemed to hope this latest bad news would bring them closer together.

Whenever players from the Super Bowl team talk about that season they always marvel at the magic they felt. They describe the locker-room camaraderie as the best they were ever around. Players stayed late at the practice facility. They ordered food. They arrived at the stadium early on home game days, throwing on their uniform pants and pads, then sitting in a room just off the stadium locker room playing Mortal Kombat and Madden NFL until they had to go onto the field for warmups.

It was a happy time. It was a wonderful time. It was the best time many of them ever had.

Then Wednesday they mourned another of them, the biggest name of them all.

And like with the others, it's too soon.

I don't know who Ray Easterling is, the media will specifically target people they feel is more important >.< but it is never good to hear about a players death.

When I saw Juniors' picture on the front page of the newspaper, I just didn't want to believe it before I read it. They say he gave no sign of depression or any indication that he was ailing. He just up and one day shot himself. He must have been REALLY good at hiding his pain.

Yeah I never heard anything about Easterling. I can see why his suicide was looked over by the media. He was in his sixties and really wasn't in the NFL spotlight (except for the lawsuit) for 30+ years. Doesn't make the situation any less tragic. Seau though was one of the most if not the most dominant linebacker in the past 25 years. His death is going to bring up a lot of light on the subject of CTE among other things.

I also had no idea about all the Charger player deaths from their Super Bowl run. That is just freaky.
