The Penguins got their butts handed to them by the Bruins. I was at the game, and I couldn't believe Pittsburgh couldn't score on at least one of those 5-on-3s. Give credit to Boston and especially Thomas for stopping all of those shots.
Yea. Thomas had some good saves on those 5-on-3s but the Pens looked generally flat for a lot of it. Thomas did have a great game, though, no doubt, but I think that the Bs did a better job hustling overall. But damn, I must admit, I'm terrified every time I see Crosby or Malkin in the offensive zone with the puck. They have that "finishing ability" that the Bruins, until Seguin (and with the exception of Savard, perhaps) totally lacked. But they play great team defense, and by far are the best 5 on 5 team in the league, and by far carry the greatest goal differential in the league. If they started half as well as they're playing now, they'd be on pace for a record season.
As for realignment, I read a good article accentuating the good aspects of it, and it partially persuaded me.
Example:
The league is actually bringing back elements of previous eras with this new set-up. Back in the ‘70s the Bs and Flyers battled for the Cup and will be able to once again after not being able to under the current system. The new playoffs will produce finalists we’d never see with today’s way of doing it. The bad blood should also get amped up among the year after year rivalries that will get worse and meaner, much like the aforementioned era that produced incredibly intense hockey.
