Nickelodeon in the 90's

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 11:54 pm

Unfortunately, even if they wanted to, the creator was so soured on the project working with them that HE doesn't want to.

he could start a new, non invader zim project. as all that was great about invader zim came from the creator, I forget his name right now, but having read his comics (which are even more amazing, he was held back by the censors) he could easily start a new televison show based on his comics, like maybe JTHM, and some one like advlt swim could pick him up. or even better, a web series, although thats hard to do by your self.

I remember enjoying The Secret World of Alex Mack, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Ren and Stimpy, Wienerville, and Invader Zim. But aside from Zim, I doubt anything else really aged all that well.

Eh, I think I prefer 00s Nickelodean, if only because of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Same :teehee:

Well the ones I remembered of course

This.

A very thorough poll, there were a lot of shows there that I'd never heard of, and a lot that I had completely forgotten about.

Anyway, I'm glad to see that Invader Zim was on the list. Even though it's technically from 2001, not the 90's, a list of my favorite Nick shows wouldn't be complete without it. It's by far my favorite series on there.

(I think I just realized who Pinkie Pie reminds me of...)

His name is Jhonen Vasquez. And yeah, after reading his other stuff(which is just as awesome, imo, as Zim), I have no clue what posessed Nickelodeon to work with him.

Even more reason to prefer 2000s Nick!

I watched a LOT of Rocko's Modern Life and Ren and Stimpy as a kid. I watched them recently as an advlt and I can't believe my parents let me watch this stuff O_o It's full of nastiness kids shouldn't see. But I guess because I was a kid, I was blissfully ignorant to the real meaning, which explains why my mom would watch the shows with me and laugh WAY more than I did.

Hey Arnold and Catdog mostly.

Ren and Stimpy too, but I always found that cartoon a bit [censored] up. :P In a good way.

Thank you OP for putting me on a Nostalgia trip! Speaking of 90's cartoons, I just finished watching all 76 episodes of X-Men: The Animated Series on Netflix. :D

The best show to come from nick in the last 10 years would probably be Avatar: The Last Airbender and Fairly Oddparents. There is also The Legend of Korra which is coming soon. Other than those two shows, I don't put it on Nick anymore. Avatar, Fairly Oddparents and Spongebob are the only Nick shows that I watch. Everything else is pretty much garbage.

Bring back the old days Nick!

Is it bad that I watched most of these shows when I was in my teens and late teens already? I mean, it's kind of understandable when I only caught Nickelodeon once we had moved from rural Eire to urban Germany and my parents got themselves a satellite dish.
Zim wasn't even out until I was 21... Then again, that's not a kids show. Seriously, "Hey let's get that guy who wrote and drew a book about a guy forced to murder people through the voice of an Eldritch abomination in his head and his general anti-social tendencies to make a kids show for us, THAT MAKES PERFECT SENSE RIGHT?"
Anyway, why separate "old" SpongeBob? The one defining characteristic of the show was the blatant surrealism. Which they rightfully amped up, I say.

Welcome to Good Burger home of the Good Burger may ah take your orrrrdurrr?
...
And then they take one catch phrase and series of skits and make a film out of it and totally ruin it. Damn you, Viacom.

What about the shows from the 80's? You can't do that on Television = Awesome. There are also some cartoons from the 80's that I seem to have forgotten.

I can't remember the names but I think one was called David the Gnome. There was also a cartoon about a girl trapped in some Koala land and they fight against some evil guy. That was a long time ago. :P

I loved the game shows, GUTS, Double Dare, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8ZUOJApfL0(That silver monkey doomed many an explorer), and the wild and crazy kids. I didn't see much of Nick Arcade.

One of my favs of the old days was http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3folGazGbog. That episode in particular will always be stuck in my mind.
