[RELz] Night and Day

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 1:31 am

I was out by Goodsprings Source as the sun was setting, so I thought to myself, "I'd better head back into town."
When I got to the saloon it was midnight, so I thought to myself, "I'd better find a bed."
When I found an un-owned bed, it was sunrise, so I thought to myself, "30:1 timescale is stupid."

The first thing the mod does is set the timescale to 8:1, so one real hour is 8 game hours instead of 30.
This also required adjustment to hardcoe settings so as not to starve faster.
While on the theme of day and night, I decided to make nights actually darker -instead of just as bright as day, only shifted blue. Ambient light is now much darker while moonlight stays about the same. That way you can still function without night vision goggles, but there are some deep shadows for things to lurk in.
Finally, while in the weather settings, I added a few variant weathers to the default wasteland climate. In addition to the standard Clear, there is Dusty, Hazy, and Scorching weather.

This looks like its got everything I need in one mod. Although the night looks like it might be too dark for my tastes. We'll see, downloading it now.

The timescale change is only taking effect for new games. Will issue an update this evening or tomorrow.

A few tips...

1: Town down the horizon color too. The horizon isn't that bright except for urban-level light pollution. And the vast majority of the world is dark by that point still.

2: Find the corresponding imagespace modifier and amp the brightness add modifier up to 2 from 1 or whatever it's at. May require serious reworking of other weather colors as well to compensate.

Also, you can easily change the timescale to suit you via the console.

set timescale to

Updated version is on the nexus. Instead of altering hardcoe settings, now uses "Imp of the Perverse"'s technique of setting timeScale to 30 in menu mode.

New Vegas

What would be the motivation for this?

Yep, but this is fire-and-forget and hardcoe-friendly.

A version without any timescale tweaks would be nice. :)

All of these realism mods should be added together in one pack with seperate esp's for every newly added thing

i changed my timescale through the console so you could always do that to an existing game.

what changes were made to hardcoe cause i havent noticed starving or having to drink to much.

Enjoying the mod, ran into what might be a bug, was around Boulder City/188 area and noticed at 12:06am that the weather was a light grey and had a odd circular banding effect that rises from the horizon. I thought this may be by design, as the area is kind of close to New Vegas, but at about 12:30am it switches to what I expect night to look like with this mod and the banding disappears.

I am pretty sure the weather was hazy during the previous day, so it may be the same issue as someone on the nvnexus page described.

Here are 2 screenshots, both taken at 12:06am, the first showing the general colour and the second the banding effect (clearest on the left side of the image)

New release:

Timescale will now be set to 8:1 rather than 5:1 on the first loading of the mod.
Furthermore, you can now set the timescale yourself on the console without the mod overwriting the change, yet still be hardcoe-compatible.
Tweaked some weather color and imagespace settings. In particular, Hazy nights and Scorching days should look better.
You may occasionally see heat haze rising from the ground during Scorching weather.

Have not reproduced any bright nights or other visual artifacts.

A new version is available with two changes:
Most "pseudo-outdoor" areas now have darker nights.
Fixed a condition that would cause timescale to revert to 30 when repeatedly opening and closing the waiting menu.
