nightingale armor: poor choice of enchantments?

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 8:45 pm

it is supposed to be like the best armor a thief can get, nocturnal being the patron deity of thieves and all that. so why does it feel like it's way off?

the muffle effect is cool, and the bonus to lockpicking fits, but that's it. you might want the bonus to illusion, but the boots already have a permanent muffle effect, and do i even have to mention the shadowcloak of nocturnal. overall the set feels like it's more geared towards warrior type of players rather than sneaky thieves, with its bonuses to stamina and one-handed.

sure, it shouldn't be just an upgrade over the thieves guild armor or the guild master's armor with better stats, but at least it should represent the skills that fall under (or close) the stealth tree. where's pickpocket, alchemy, speech and better prices, or maybe archery? now, i would imagine people wear it mostly for the looks.

I do like the lookc, and I also like the 50% frost resist effect.

Daggers are 1handed weapons, so they get that buff.

The enchants seem spot on IMO.

Illusion is great for thieves and assassins. You can frenzy enemies, so they attack each other, or calm targets. Not to mention, invisibility.

I prefer to just use the guild master's armor.

I prefer the db set. My rogue uses bow also so the 20% cowl is good. And the gloves give double backstab damage so with sneak perk that is 30x damage.

It's funny because you can actually do that. There is a glitch where if you have a house with a maniqin (spell fail I i know >.<) you put the armor on the maniqin, without exiting out, you scroll up to the maniqin's inventory and take the armor off. You then leave the house and come back in and there is another full set of armor on the maniqin plus the one in your inventory. When you copy the armor, the enchantments don't stay with it so you can technically enchant it yourself. I haven't tested this with Nightingale armor, but I have tested it with my enchanted Daedric armor in the Solitude house. There's a lot of videos on youtube if you need help.

Nope- they don't. -Daggers are not buffed by the fortify one-handed damage enchantment.

I do like the enchants on that armor. Especially frost resist and muffle. I mean of course it won't compare to uber custom enchanted armor tailored to your character, but it doesn't cost 8 perks either.

My biggest gripe is the cloak. I hates it. I do hope one of the early mods once CK is out includes a cloakless version.

I got a mod to make and enchant my own. Didn't like the default enchantments on either DB or Nightingale armor.

I've never seen it remove enchantments. I have 4 copies of the Ebony mail (one mannequin continues to produce them) and all have the enchantment.

I like the stamina buff and 1h buff because I dual wield when mooks close to melee range, and it's nice to have that little extra bit of power attack fuel.

I don't like the Nightingale armor, it looks like something from Star Wars IMO. The regular Thieves Guild armor has pretty good enchants and looks like something you would actually wear back then.

True, but this is more of a reflection on how bad the others are. The Nightingale stuff is better than the thieves stuff, even for thieving. But it sort of makes sense: Nightingales ARE fighters not thieves in that capacity. That said, if the CK ever appears I'll proably change at least one enchantment on all of the stealth armour for both TG and DB.

I'm guessing the poster means the Fremen http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs44/i/2009/090/4/7/Fremen_Warrior_by_originalnilson.jpg. With the mask I agree, that's why I wore a shrouded cowl with it. Don't like the Nightingale cowl.

Yup, and especially once you've seen the http://www.duneinfo.com/arrakis/stillsuits/images/6b.jpg, the image kinda stuck (tho' I did prefer the mini series).

Nightingale Armor is specifically for a Nightblade Character. Illusion, Sneak, Onehanded, it's perfect for the magic-using stealth character. I'm pretty sure people are just butthurt that such amazing looking armor doesn't have their specific desired enchantments, which I certainly sympathize with. We should be able to buy an unenchanted set of any specific guild-armor in the game at some point through the guild story. Especially because the "High-Level" Armor in Skyrim is pretty damn ugly, except for Ebony. I would much prefer my Thieve's Guild blacks, greys or even browns, to Dragonscale or Dragonplate armor, that's for damn sure.

I kinda like that the elite level guild armor is unalterable... tho' I agree that the lower ones should be available for purchase should you complete that storyline.

I use the Nightingale Armor with the Thieve Guild Master Hood. I find it to be a decent combination, but I mostly use sneak to get a jump on the enemies.
