Nipton Colony Challenge

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 5:09 am

A lot of us have seen that show "The Colony" on whatever channel. I'm mimicking that set up, cause i'm bored. This will be played with hardcoe mode on, hard difficulty, and a fair amount of roleplay.

:deal: Here we go.

I been dropped into the wasteland at the Nevada/California border( right East of Nipton) with:

A set of civilian clothes, a 9mm pistol, 20 NCR bucks, and food for one day (3 water products and a meal)
In my game, Nipton was obviously already cleared of its plot line duties.

My goal is to remain living in Nipton for 4 in game weeks, using only food/water/medical supplies I find in Nipton and the immediate surrounding area. My character has decided it isn't logical to hike into the mountains to the east, or through the dried lake beds to the west, because she was dropped here without any knowledge that anyone else exists and would probably die before finding anything.

I may get bored and bring in a wandering trader, raider group, ect, or scrap/change the rules of my challenge, but above is the plan as of now.

Go ahead and try it yourself if your bored, I tried a similar set up in Fallout 3 at the Republic of Dave, but without hardcoe mode it wasn't really challenging.

I'm such a geek.

Do it, but it may get boring with nothing much to do but kill bark scorpions, but then again on hard they will be a pain and you will likely run out of ammunition.
I hope you find survival crafting useful and forrage the area for supplies, also be nice to find a varmint rifle or 2.

I like the way you're thinking. I always enjoy finding some new way to play things. Living off the land = much fun in my book. I always used the random mattresses and Raider hideouts for my home in FO3. At least with hardcoe, now we have some reason to try and collect food and water.

Sounds extremely boring on paper but in reality it seems quite fun. I am going to try the same thing when I finish the game (just entered free side).

Hehe, I loved doing this sort of thing in Fallout and TES. I once spent a week living in Oblivion, and a long time surviving in the DC subway, although without HC mode there wasn't much to occupy myself with.

Could be more fun on the PC if you added a few things but on the 360 it would be so very very very very limited, slow-paced and tedious.
So Nope, won't try that.
Might try that in some other area though but Nipton? Nah.

Game doesn't respawn anything unless you are out of the area for at least three days. Since nearby creatures don't have a large enough wander zone, it's gonna get lonely quite early.

I'd recommend setting the respawn timer to a couple of hours so that every time you sleep indoors you'll get a fresh batch of creatures when you exit.
