Settlements- They seem more structured in NV. Unlike Fallout 3 where the settlements were just 2 or 3 houses together with a handful of people, the towns in NV actually seem like towns. They have specific dwellings, shops, and just generally it seems the overall infrastructure of the settlements had more time spent on it. The main example I always think about from DC was Girdershade, just 2 random houses in the middle of nowhere. I haven't really come across such as that in NV, the towns actually have a believable population and their means of making a living are more apparent.
Combat- I consistently find myself yelling "DIE ALREADY!" In Fallout 3 I found the Hunting Rifle to be sufficient to bring down the majority of foes, anything bigger got the Combat Shotgun and groups received the Chinese Assault Rifle/Frag Grenade treatment. I recently did battle with some Caesar's Legion troops and one guy took 3 shotgun shells to the face (just a recruit, not even a veteran) without dying! With Fallout 3 I could understand a high level enemy with power armor withstanding a couple rounds of buckshot to the noggin, but at level 7 I'm already tangling with lightly armored foes that take a horrendous amount of ammunition to kill. It's not fun or challenging, it's just annoying to have to fill a guy with enough lead that I could wear his body as an advanced radiation suit before he dies. It took me almost 15 minutes, 11 stimpacks, 14 sarasparillos, 2 super stimpacks, 45 shotgun shells, 87 9mm rounds, 46 10mm rounds, 68 5.56mm rounds, and 17 .357 rounds just to kill 4 Legion troops (1 recruit, 2 veterans, and 1 of the deca-something guys). Dude, friggin' DIE!
Weapon prices- My barter skill is 25, it's not amazing. But 216 caps for a single frag grenade? Really? I shot that traveling merchant and stole that grenade just for trying to charge me that kind of price.
VATS- I noticed that my character takes a lot more damage in VATS than in the previous game. Makes it more challenging, I can't just go into VATS and expect to be nearly impervious to anything. I remember I could hit an enemy point blank with a Fat Man if I was in VATS and only suffer minor damage. I do like that the focus has been shifted off of VATS at least a bit.
Thats all I have for now. I'm sure I'll find many more almost meaningless details to both compliment and whine incessantly about over the course of this game.
