Noob- Wants to make own house in skyrim- how hard?

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 11:54 am

Hey guys,

I'm a complete noob modder and have been following Beth's video tutorials and wiki pages to learn how to use the CK properly.

Anyway my first mod project is to mod my own house into the Skyrim world. I think I'm fine with the interior stuff and have already constructed bare rooms for my entire ground floor.

The main question I want to ask is- how easy is it to make custom exteriors?

As a complete noob can I do this or will I just have to choose a Whiterun style house that looks vaguely the right shape to match my interior?

Thanks in advance.

Exteriors are models.

You either use/combine prefabs already in the CK (it seems beth often did - over-laying one on another, sometimes), or you make your own models in 3DSMax / Bender etc etc (plus, I believe a third party tool or two).

There are many easier things you could do as your first mod, but then again, this is not too hard ... unless you cannot 3d model and don't want the existing prefabs.

There's a tutorial series to walk you through building a player house from start to finish http://tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/forum/114-creation-kit-basics/. It's pretty easy once you know the tools. :)
