Normal Maps.

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 1:06 am

I'm having a problem with my normal maps for my weapons.

They're not showing in game.

I'm using nifscope RC4 and I set the Normal map in the place it goes. (texture set, second row, like everything else)

But once I get my weapons in game, the normal maps dont show up, the textures are not bumpy and the lighting is just flat.

Anyone know why this is happening?

Is it a new model or just a retextured one? Have you checked the normal vectors?

What didn't work?

Creating normal vectors certainly doesn't turn your model black.

Anyway, crystal balls are out of stock since the kobold incident of 2003, it would be much easier if you just uploaded your model somewhere.

The Num UV Sets in my model is 1, but when I change it to 4096 the model turns completely black.

I did exactly what it said in on that page and it stuffs my nif. I saved over the nif to see it in game, so now I have a stuffed nif and cant see a way to get it back.

Whe n I do it with RC2, it tells me "need vertices, normals, texture coordinates and faces to calculate tangents and binormals".

As Jog mentioned there are numerous possibilities on what could be the problem so easiest way to figure it out would be for you to upload the mesh somewhere and post a link so it can be downloaded and checked\fixed otherwise it could take several days of back and forth guesses to find out what the problem is.

.. its 7Am and I've been up all night. I want to go to bed.

I did exactly what he said in the page he linked and it only messed up my model.

I'll upload the model to SkyrimNexus Tomo.

In the mean time could you suggest what could have happened. Go over your instructions again and see if you've missed anything.

I'm not a pro at nifscope and I have no idea what im doing, so I'm just following your instructions.

It should be 4097

DIdnt work. I still get that error when I try updating tagent space. And my model is still completely black.

I have uploaded my broken nifs to: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=9700

File: Broken Nifs.

EDIT:

Nevermind, I fixed it.

Problem was i set the UV sets to 4096, and that stuffed my nif and turned it black. So then I set it to 4097 it was still black.

I recreated the .nif and set the UV sets to 4097 and the normals are working now.

Setting it to 4096 broke it and it was still broken when I changed it to 4097.
