Not all of the Radio songs are playing!

Post » Mon Feb 21, 2011 11:31 am

I've gone rooting through the directory and found that the F:NV has a TON of songs! I've been getting really annoyed by hearing the same 10 or so over and over again, but here I find that the radio should have 40-something songs on it!
A great deal of these are not being utilized, and they're fantastic songs!
I've never once heard Streets of New Reno in-game, I only just listened to it and it's a fantastic song!
Bethesda/Obsidian, please fix this problem!

I don't think this is a bug. The difference with FO3 is that in NV the songs are now scattered across many different radio stations and locations. One of the users at these forums inspected the script in the GECK and there doesn't appear to be a problem. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1127629-radio-bugfix/

I've noticed that what appears to be the soundtracks of fallout 1+2 comes in the new vegas data files, but I haven't heard any of the tracks in-game. Don't really understand why they're there.

I know of one example. The music in Nipton is from Fallout 1.

Those are location based. you have to have your radio off and be in a town. Primm has a fallout 1+2 tune. one of me favorites.

Well it's unfortunate that the songs are distributed across the three stations.. (especially if you get rid of BMR).
After playing for a while I know that I'm still not hearing 8 or so songs, though.

you can hear the tracks from fallout 1 and 2 playing, when not listening to any radiostation at all. they are kind of ambient-tracks.

and to be honest, since i found out those tracks where in there, i almost never listened to any of the stations. the atmosphere they create is what brought me to become a post apocalyptic game fan in the first place.
the distorted church-bells, the air raid warning, all those eerie sounds. i just love it. =)

alternatively there are some mods to change or add radiostations on the nexus: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/cat.php?id=88
one idea would be to take the http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34999 and put all the already existing songs in there. then you have a single station with all the tracks from the game. =)

Here's the list of New Vegas radio songs from the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout:_New_Vegas_soundtrack:
  • Ain't That a Kick in the Head
  • Blue Moon
  • Green Clouds and Dust Whirls*
  • Home on the Wastes*
  • It's a Sin to Tell a Lie
  • Jingle, Jangle, Jingle
  • Love Me as Though There Were No Tomorrow
  • Mad About the Boy
  • New Vegas Valley*
  • Something's Gotta Give
  • Streets of New Reno*
  • Why Don't You Do Right? (Get Me Some Money, Too!)
  • Big Iron
  • Hangover Heart
  • Heartaches by the Numbers
  • It's a Sin
  • Johnny Guitar
  • Stars of the Midnight Range

Fourteen are cool old-timey songs and the rest listed are *Bethesda compositions that I've never heard in-game on the radio. The Wiki claims that some are excIusive to certain radio stations, but I have been in numerous situations where the same song is playing on a building's radio on one station while my PipBoy is playing it (slightly out of sync) on another station.

I'm looking forward to a Johnny Guitar delete mod.

Streets of New Reno and some of the other Bethesda originals are NOT supposed to be on the Radio.

Streets of New Reno (and New Vegas Valley) are supposed to be sung by one of the acts you can recruit at the tops. The thing is- the Tops is bugged and after I recruit the acts NONE of them (not even the ratpack revue) perform anymore. I can tell many of these songs are supposed to be used by the Rat Pack Revue and the two musical acts you recruit for them by looking at the scripts in the GECK. I wish it wasn't bugged though so they'd actually freaking play though.

I'm also pretty sure some of the blues and jazz pieces you never hear are supposed to be played by the guy on the run from the Mordino family who you recruit as an act. Again, since the Tops acts are bugged for me they never play.
