Not Interesting Skyrim?

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 4:44 am

ok, I`m a fan of the series since morrowind. but with skyrim something strange happen: every time I finish a quest, I have no interest in continuing the game. so I don`t play the game for some days. eventually I re-load the game, kind of from habbit, I get involved in a new quest, I play that for a day or two and the momentum goes away again. it`s like skyrim present no interest, no satisfaction, no pleasure to play. it`s sad, but true.

every time I play it, I must motivate myself, as the game itself doesn`t motivate me to play it.

seems like there is no line to continue the game. every quest is a mini game inside skyrim, every time I finish it, it`s like the game is done. even more, quest are repetitive. I never get the ideea of what`s next, not to speak about beeing curios to discover it, as I`m not. strange, isn`t it?

again, I`m a fan. if someone ask me what`s my favorite game, I`ll say TES series.

anyone has similar feelings?

I thouroughly enjoy Skyrim. For me, Oblivion is kind of meh. I just couldnt get intrested in the main quest there. I enjoy guild quests and dungeoneering, but no real desire to work on the Oblivion Gates.

Seems like the complaint at work: we were all just going through the motions.

Are you possibly having a difficult time getting attached to NPCs?
Does your character feel like a cardboard cutout?
What are your views on the various systematic changes versus Oblivion?
Do you like the no-class system?
Do you like the revamped stats?

I'd like to know, because Skyrim went from my most anticipated game of 2011 to 4th place (so far) in my 2011 rankings, right ahead of Assassin's Creed: Revelations, and well behind 3rd place Portal 2.

It's because no one acknowledges your accomplishments. The NPCs are oblivious and the reward is generally a leveled amount of gold, which in itself is absolutely pointless because gold is literally falling from the sky in this game. FFS, in Oblivion for example, you did quests as a form of exploration, because sometimes one of them would give you a really powerful weapon. Here though, the weapon rewards are randomly generated and there's nothing that can beat self-crafted weaponry. So again, where's the motivation? There is none and you're noticing this.

Play New Vegas!
Definitely tons of rewards and consequences there. Can't sneeze without somebody noticing and caring.

Nope. You must have some sort of odd video game allergy. I'd seek help.

Like you I love the TES series as well, but after awhile its like watching a re-run over and over again ............ :stare: So I shelf it and let it collect dust for awhile. I have a list of games I have not played yet sittin on the shelf. Right now I'm 40hrs into Amalur and still haven't cleaned out the first map, and just rolled into the secound. 35 side quests done and 3 main. This ones gonna take awhile !! Right now I am hunting down Sylvanite Daggers and Faeblades so I can increase my weapons. :drag: Kill em all and let the Gods sort it out !

100% agree with this. I mean did the devs even play the game? Someone somewhere working at Beth must have said "this is all pointless, nothing I do matters". Did they play FNV? I've just started the Civil War quest for the first time today and I can just feel I'll unite the Empire and all anyone will say to me is "You brew potions? Then brew some mead". :banghead:

It gets better. (as in, it gets worse)

Spoiler
Not only does it happen as you say, with no one recognizing your title (cept General Tullius), but if you do a Stormcloak playthrough, the quests and dialog are -LITERALLY- copy-pasted. You can complete a mission on a Legion playthrough, then go back and do it for the Stormcloaks and your companion (the commanding officer) will provide the EXACT same dialog as the other army while crawling through the dungeon. No I'm not joking

I'm taking a break from Skyrim myself. I've put about 100 hours into Skyrim so compared to any game that isn't TES or Fallout that's really impressive and well worth the money spent not to mention I really enjoyed those hours. However, compared to Morrowind, Oblivion and the 2 recent Fallouts (not played the original 2) it's a bit disappointing. I played those games for far longer than I have Skyrim before getting bored and I doubt I'll play Skyrim again until DLC is released.

Copy and pasting dialogue is lazy because RPG's should give you freedom and more importantly the freedom to choose. After you choose there should be consequences for you action, if there are no consequences then what is the point? All you have is the illusion of choice. Choosing a side has no baring in the game as is defeating Alduin. That's why I've started to make up my own quests, keep an journal and posting them online. That way I make my own choices and consequences.

Yes I have similar feelings. Obivion and Skyrim is only great in the first few weeks. After that, you kinda wish it had more depht to keep you interested.

I dont know how they did it with Morrowind, but that game is just superior in this aspect.

Thing is though, is that even though I've completed the civil war quests (Imperial victory) people still behave as if it's still going on. This is the likes of the Jarls at that not some turnip farmer in the middle of nowhere where news might not reach.

When it comes to the guild quests, it seems as tho most of them start out decently. Then go down hill from there at a 90 degree angle.

What I liked about TES games:

open world, sort of realistic fantasy, not puppet like and a story that felt YOU were creating.

now I know I miss the story. There is no sense of a story in Skyrim and surely YOU are not the most important character of it.

join the club, I have stopped playing skyrim - haven't even started the main quest or finished any guild quests. I have zero motivation to play the game. I've started morrowind again, and am relieved to have that addictive craving-it-even-when-not-playing feeling back.

When I played Oblivion, I found myself powering through the main quest because I loved it so much!

Now, although I do like the main quest, I find myself exploring a lot more, as the environments are pretty amazing (especially with some of the mods that you can install!!!)

You've just got to decide what YOU want out of the game, and if it doesn't work for you, then there are plenty more fish in the sea

I think the game just suffers from the level of detail in the world a bit. I mean theres freakin bees and ants in it i don't even think they left anything from the natural world out

I'm lucky, it didn't happen to me in 180 hours. I'm still excited when I press play and I don't feel like quitting after completing quests. I'm very curious what happens next.

I've stopped playing altogether. The world is large, but the content and depth of the world is entirely subpar.
