Not levelling up

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 9:23 am

I'm playing through on PC version and loving the game, however I seem to be stuck in terms of continuing my levelling up.

I've played through for a couple of hours stuck at 28. I have definitely spent all my attribute points, and the Level Up option isn't on the main menu so it's not that, it's just that I haven't seemed to gain anymore xp for quite some time?

Is this perhaps because I am doing stuff too low level for me? Slightly confused why I appear to be stuck at level 28, any suggestions?

Levelling up gradually takes more time. In the beginning of the game, you learn fast because you basically know nothing; after that, you have less to learn. My character has been level 25 for a while now and it seems to take forever to reach level 26.

As skill-levels progress upwards it becomes harder to further increase them. Thus you get much less level-xp from them.

So if you must level further, and don't have the patience to increase your already progressed skills, increase your skill level at skills that you have barely used/increased.

OK, it just seems strange cos my xp bar is right at the end, perhaps a pixel away from being max, and has been like that for hours lol. Was wondering if it's a bug of some sort. I'm going to continue on the main storyline quest and see if I start fighting harder foes, as I seem to be wiping things out really quickly with sneak attacks. (Playing a double daggers assassin/ranger build).

Might start using illusion magic a bit more see if that bumps me along.

Are you 100% sure you didn't forget levelling up?

I have played a lot of characters, and there is a real difference in how fast you can level later on, I use spammable Skills like Alchemy, Enchanting, and Smithing to push my character to a next level later in the game when they get into the late 20's. Skills that can be levelled quickly like Sneaking for a non stealth character are also useful to hit another level.
If your character has paid for training, you may have reached a point where you need to actually use a skill for the increases to actually happen.

Yep, definately, I've checked numerous times as that's what I was thinking too.

You level up ONLY by using skills. Perhaps the skills you use are really high and therefore taking a long time, or they're even at level 100.

OK, sorted it, used a trainer to level up on alchemy, that pushed me over to 29. As you say the skills I use are very high, sneak is 100, Archery 67.

Thanks guys. Guess I shall start levelling Illusion now. ;)

That happened to me too. It seems that once you are killing most creatures with one hit of your daggers levelling up takes for ever, which makes sense as you are not actually using your skill very much. The way round it is, as others have said, to start working on skills you have so far neglected, but fit your character (illusion, smithing etc.). The problem then repeats and in my experience you either have to start building skills that your character would never use, thus destroying the RP element of the game, or accept a cap on your level.

Personally, I think by the time you get to the early/mid-fifties your character is pretty much maxed out in as much as you can kill anything you want to, go where you want to, without fear of serious harm, and further levelling just takes you further away from the line you wanted to play at the start. Why would a very successful sneaky assassin want to get involved in destruction magic or shield-bashing?
