To [spoiler] or not to [spoiler] regarding the BOS

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 8:21 am

I'm playing a Good Karma character.

Spoiler

However, the Brotherhood of Steel is a group that pretty much exists to keep technology out of the hands of ignorant savages. You know, people like me. I'm not sure whether the brothers who murdered the Followers were also acting under the Elder's orders or not (I went back to talk to him about it and there was no dialogue option). Likewise, I'm fairly sure that their first act upon NCR retreating once I take over will be to retake Helios One and try to deny more power to the people of the Wasteland. Not to mention the fact I'm going to be sitting on a massive stockpile of robots and Mister House's former tech.

So, really, which is the more moral option?

Annihilate the Brotherhood who are nothing more than a gang of raiders now, stealing valuable tech and murdering people for it while believing in their superstitious codex or leaving them be because they've been good guys in the past.

It's a surprisingly hard decision for me.

I think Elder McNamara is just a stubborn old man who try to protect BoS, I do not think he command those fanatic BoS bastard to kill FoA in the outpost.

If there is someone who give this kind of order, I think it is come from Paladin Hardin.

I also playing Good Karma character, I only kill those who I confirmed they had killed or going to kill people without reasonable reason.

...because of that..I killed Mr. House :sadvaultboy:

Yeah, one of the biggest downers was killing Mister House.

I fall on the camp that think Mister House is a JERK but didn't deserve to die.

He's just doing what the Courier is doing.

Probably why I got bad karma for killing him.

The big thing with Fallout: New Vegas that I could take or leave is that no matter what you do - semi decent and likable people will be screwed over.

I guess the ending depresses me a bit.

Spoiler
The Brotherhood of Steel starts harassing travelers for tech along the highway leading to and from NCR.

I mean - way to show you learned NOTHING guys.

How long until NCR sends in peacekeepers or special ops?

after finishing the quests and keeping mcnamara in power, i felt that particular chapter has changed. so i never liked wiping them out after that. plus, it seems many members never had a choice to be a member or not, their parents were members, so they are members. there was never a chance at a different life.

that being said, they are still a nuisance and will only cause problems for the region, no matter who is in control.

there is some hope at peace between the bos and the ncr with the treaty, but i find it hard to believe the bos will stay cordial with the ncr after all the bad blood. maybe mcnamara won't wage war, but his successor most certainly will. and given the views of hardin and many members, one can't rule out a mutiny in the near future.

i wish there would have been an option to install veronica as elder, as she seems to really understand how pathetic and obsolete the bos are. then a finishing quest to purge the dissenters like hardin, and that would be my ideal ending for the bos. but as the game stands, i have to wipe them out everytime (after power armor training of course).

I always try in my games to get the BoS allied with the NCR......they seem a little more sensible after the dam then. Once the NCR gives back the ruined power armor suits that is.

Dealing with the Brotherhood just svcks all around. The majority of people inside the bunker are NOT bad guys at all. But the creed that they abide by is just so...infuriatingly...STUPID! They have no common sense, no purpose, they've done nothing but antagonize the populace at large...and can't even have the dignity to die alone, they still are going to cause trouble, pointlessly, in their death throes. And all because the elder members are too stubborn, and the younger ones don't know any better. They don't deserve to die...but if the organization as a whole is going to be a nuisance, what else can be done?

I try and console myself by going for the self-destruct approach and sneaking out with a Stealth Boy. They should be able to evacuate the base in the time it takes to blow, it's not like it's a big secret or anything, the alarms are blaring...I want them to run, I silently beg them to run, to leave the Mojave, find someplace else. But if they won't...I can't be held entirely responsible. Right? RIGHT? :cryvaultboy:

I dunno, I love Veronica as a character but it's fairly clear she also doesn't know much about the real world. I think she'd probably be a terrible elder simply for the fact that, as much as I dislike McNamara, at least he's aware EVERYONE HATES THE BROTHERHOOD. Mister House, Caesar's Legion, and the NCR all want the Brotherhood of Steel dead. With only like a hundred guys left, the BOS doesn't have room to complain.

But yes, one of the cool things is I wonder if Elder McNamara is the last of the Old Brotherhood. It's probably unlikely but given NCR wiped the original Brotherhood off the map, it's kind of terrifying to think that with the exception of the CW Outcasts - Veronica is trying to essentially save sixty people who represents everyone who served the original Codex.

The "Old Creed" being dead.

Should it even be considered a spoiler anymore to talk about BOS being killed?
I mean, it's 3 out of 4 main quest paths. (NCR has two ways.)
Most if not everyone know about it already.

Probably not, but I wanted to be cautious.

But yes, I do find it interesting to speculate on whether the Brotherhood surviving will make ANYONE's life easier.

It seems they'd just cause misery.

I was going to be nice, McNamara. I was going to be a generally good Courier and try to get the BoS set up good and left alone, but you had to screw it up. You strapped explosives around my neck and try to ambush me with a group of Paladins. That ranger you wanted me to "take care of?" He survived. So did I. Together, we might have been able to be something grand, possibly even rebuild the Brotherhood's good name while bringing stability and law to the Mojave. Instead, you had to blow it, you doctrinal primate.

Your days are numbered, numbnuts. And remember this as your precious bunker crumbles around you: You brought it on yourself.
