Notes from a Friend - never started in my game?

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 4:32 pm

In one game I got a 'note from a friend' and followed through on it but never got another (I've heard there are multiples for some people?)

Now, in my new game I haven't triggered it at all???

Is there some way to make this happen? Are others not getting this at all in their game?

You mean the letters from a friend that tell you about shouts? they come to you by courier when you go wandering around cities. just go to a city, shop around, maybe talk to the jarl or get a beer. then wander the streets for a bit. a courier should show up eventually if you finished the previous one. also make sure to use shouts, dunno if that makes a differences, but the letters always say something about making a ruckus with your shouts somewhere and wanting to help you expand your powers.

dunno when you get your first one, may need to visit the greybeards dunno.

I'm having this too. The first courier, the one that brings us the first letter after we killed the first dragon at the Western Tower never showed up.

I'll try to make him appear by using the console command:

placeatme 0006A11A

This command worked in Oblivion and most of the Skyrim commands are identical to that of Oblivion so it's worth giving it a try. Open the console, click on the ground near you, enter the command above, punch enter and leave the console. Hope it'll work; if it doesn't, only Bethesda will be able to help. It's something that happened after the latest update.

If it works, it's possible that we find ourselves with two couriers once because this command spawns a new copy of the character. If it happens, open the console, click on the copy of the character and enter

disable

punch enter, leave the console.

Okay, the command did work but the courier gave me no letter... We need Bethesda here!

Just tried using shouts around town, and it worked in summoning a courier. Didn't raelize that's how it happened. Now, for my question...why was the courier naked?! Or were they all naked and I'm just drawing a blank?

Just learned to never use the storm-calling thu'um inside of a city.

Oh, using shouts and the courier would pop up? I'll try that, thanks!

The courier I saw was always wearing clothes, sorry.

Yeah, you have to shout near/around people, and make sure that they respond. Sooner or later one of two things will happen: A. Courier shows up and gives you the note. 2. Guard shows up and tells you to shut up. To which I promptly followed him using the "Throw Voice" shout...which caused a second guard to tell me the same thing.

I had tried the shout at the tower. I love shouting at Irileth and the guards but the courier never showed up. Anyway, I just tried it; I went back to the tower and shouted along the way back to Whiterun and this time the courier showed up. Phew!

I can confirm that! You need to shout to get this courier. But you can get a courier if you get an item someone wants! One time a mage wanted a dwemer bow of depleting which i had sold already ... ! Also giving some items to npcs during quests sometimes lead to follow ups which are introduced through a courier

Yeah, Calcemo I think is his name sends a courier anytime you buy\get a certain type of enchanted item it seems.

I got a bunch of the shout ones, than they stopped coming. I hit like 32 and got another one. The grey beard guy will also tell you where a word of power is.

If you have a miscellaneous quest telling you to look for the power at or in someplace then you will not receive another courier. also, once you have read the note and received the quest you can drop the note any time.

Yeah you have to shout in cities to get the courier. And the naked courier is not a glitch. The couriers spawn with different clothes for me, and I've had the naked one once. In Winterhold lol. He must have been freezing.
