Ok... Now I see what people meant when they said Shouts are

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 1:46 pm

I`ve been playing Skyrim for a while now and am on my second run (never finished the 1st).

There`s a few things I didn`t realise about it until recently. One of them are the Shouts. I like the Shouts- A nice idea.

For some reason, I figured my Force-Thoom was ok. I shouted and it pushed people back a bit, always good for a slight delay, although some enemies didn`t seem that bothered by it. I heard some people post about it being overpowered, but if anything it was underpowered to me. Meh, I was happy with it- it`s more than I could do in reality!

But then I discovered you needed to hold your button down for the FULL Shout... Ah... Ok, let`s give this a shot on that innocent goat over there. Probably won`t do much.

I SHOUT.

The goat flies away down the road. Wow! I run up to the goat and wait for it to get back up- It doesn`t. It`s dead! Woe the poor goat.

I face some bandits, I SHOUT - The bandits fly all over the place and die or have to strugggle up, giving me plenty of time to kill them. It`s even funny watching them fly about. A Draughr Overlord who normally give me loads of hassle is now easily despatched with a few Shouts to disable him.

This is a bit of a shock considering how hard the game is using a Shout on half-power in game before. I was wondering what people were talking about when they said Shouts are overpowered- This one Shout alone has completely turned over the difficulty of the game, even on Master!

They do seem overpowered now... hmmm.

The shouts can be incredibly powerful that is for sure, you can dominate the field with that and illusion combined.

I would agree that a few shouts are a little OP, but there are a few that leave much to be desired.

For one, I'd like to see both the Frost and Fire Breath shouts get a little love (ie: buffed). Their damage output is relativly weak in the higher levels. Make it a little less (if not on par) than what a standard dragon could do to you... after all, it's the same Thu'um, isn't it?

my only problem with full strength FUS is that sometimes, i shout things so far away, by the time i get to them, they've gotten back up. . . .

I started using slow time a bit more and for some things it's really op. I can slow time and kill bears singlehandedly without being touched. Stronger boss enemies nave maybe half strength by the time the effect wears off.

Unrelenting Force is very powerful if used correct. Not all shouts are so versitile though, like the fire and frost breath or Stormcall. Stormcall itself is very powerful, but the huge cooldown balances this. Disarm also seem to not affect the enemies you would like to disarm. The fear shot can be good, so can the two that affects animals, but one of my favorites is Marked for Death which is a damage over time and it reduces armor.
To conclude: Yes, shouts can be overpowered if you know how to use them and therefor I prefer to only use them when I need.

With over a minute cooldown and later crowd control being necessary, you must not have played this game very much.

I find without using shouts the game can become very hard. I dont like being killed and losing any progress, so ill use shouts to my advantage when i could. If its a one on one, i wont use a shout usually, but with multiple enemies ill use ice form, slow time, etc, just to give me a moment to strategize. Theres some enemies that can kill in a few shots, so having a shout that can give me the upper hand evens things out a bit

Fire breath isn't op...I could do better with a can of fly spray and a lighter...

Full strength Slow Time is cool though...

some shouts are better than others.

i have found some shouts more useful than others.

i have no use for Aura Whisper

Become Ethereal is only good for one thing.

some shouts can seem over powered until...

you fight an Elder or Ancient Dragon.

they might look overpowered and in some moments they are but remember there is a cooldown period and when you are getting swamped by daugr from 3 different sides ..owell

Secnd they really feel overpowerd when some daugr overlord uses a full fusrohdah against you or that disarm shout

Don't mind getting killed ,but spending 30 minutessearching for your weapon is tedious and stress ful at best

OP said she or he uses a few shouts on a draugr overlord. How? The powerful shouts have cooldowns that are long enough to prevent me from using a few shouts on one enemy.
