Now that Skyrim has become so popular do you think they will

Post » Mon Jun 25, 2012 8:24 am

I remember todd saying back a few months before skyrims release, that there wouldn't be that many dlc's though they would be bigger but now that the game has sold millions and has become hugely popular do you think they might make more than 2/3 dlc's maybe 4 or 5 , Dawnguard sized expansions?.

Toddy said they would continue to support Skyrim as long as it's played.

I'm sure there's someone out there still playing Arena.

I doubt, everyone expected the game to be as big as it is.

Nah, I think Dawnguard is the big one and we will get a smaller interior or questline one afterwards.

I certainly hope not because Dawnguard isn't as great as the hype led me to believe at first glance.

I play arena some times but mostly playing daggerfall or skyrim. Anyway back on topic I think its possible they could go past the number of dlc planned but they will most likely stick to the current number of dlc planned

No, but from what I have seen it isn't mindblowing. Good, but almost a identikit Bethesda expansion pack. I may change my mind after it's released.

I think stuff is planned out far in advance. Resources are limited, not limitless, you know. They have to budget money and resources and even if more money comes in than expected, you can't just throw something in willy nilly. Besides, between fallout 4, Elder Scrolls Online, and early work (writing) on ESVI, I think whatever they've committed to Skyrim is all it's going to get. (Also, "support" doesn't necessarily mean "new content".)

That's gonna be awhile even tho it's single player it's still in the top ten most played on Xbox live. If that is true they should make 4 to 5 dlcs

You know it took them less than a year to abandon Oblivion to the wilds, content wise. I didn't know this until recently but Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles both hit shelves within months of Oblivion's release. Thereafter unless you count the Fighter's Stronghold (I think) the game was more or less on its own, save patching. If there is to be another DLC of any substance beyond Dawnguard, Bethesda would have to release it prior to November of this year to keep with the same schedule. I don't know if that's very likely, and I'm not sure Skyrim will be sent on its way so quickly either, all things considered. I could be wrong on this though, they might really have "Fallout Fever" or possibly they're doing stuff we don't know about at the moment so we'll have to wait and see.

I think they released Fallout 3 not long after, with a lot more riding on it than Fallout 4 is going to have.

Interesting Q, given what I have gleaned about the developers (game coders and game development management in general). Of course they would be fools not to cash in on the popularity by selling more DLCs for Skyrim. But there are some catches to this:
  • Development might take >1 year after some manager puts the wheels in motion. Some managers would consider this risky, as they might be worried many ppl have moved on and no longer interested in Skyrim and DLCs by the time the DLC is released (after beta-testing).

  • The game coders and "developers" often don't want to go back to coding on an old game, but want to move on to something new instead. It's a different perspective on the saying: "the grass is greener on the other side." Ppl want to move on.

So I just don't know, just thought I would throw my thoughts about it here though. I do hope they do more single-player DLCs, I would buy that. GL to you.
