NPC S.P.E.C.I.A.L.

Post » Mon Jun 13, 2011 12:53 pm

This is just me being picky here, but I think that the NPC's SPECIAL stats should be revised to match their characters as well as the Vit-O-Matic descriptions. For example(s)...

Caesar
Current:
S - 6
P - 5
E - 4
C - 4
I - 4
A - 6
L - 4

Modified:
S - 5 - Average Joe - He's old, so his strength should be not what it used to be.
P - 8 - Monocled Falcon - He's got ambitions, man.
E - 7 - Tough-as-Nails - Well, he has continued to lead the Legion throughout his old age.
C - 10 - Cult Leader - Guess what? He leads a damn cult!
I - 9 - Genius - He is an intellectual, no doubt.
A - 5 - Under Control - He doesn't seem to possess agility in one way or the other.
L - 3 - Sickly Albatross - He got brain cancer...

Legate Lanius
Current:
S - 9
P - 8
E - 8
C - 7
I - 6
A - 7
L - 6

Modified:
S - 10 - Hercules' Bigger Cousin - He is literally the tallest human in the game.
P - 4 - Unsuspecting Trout - He has no idea of Caesar's dislike of him or his master plan.
E - 9 - Bullet Proof - More or less.
C - 3 - Creepy Undertaker - This guy doesn't seem to have many social skills.
I - 6 - Gifted - Good at combat strategy (you would expect), nothing more.
A - 7 - Knife Thrower - He may as well.
L - 6 - Stacked Deck - He's a stacked dike with luck on his side (aka the entire damn Legion army)

And just for fun, here's Mr. House:
S - 1 - Wet Noodle - He can't move.
P - 2 - Senile Mole - He has no [censored]in' idea that you're going to kill him until you march up to his antechamber, gun in hand.
E - 1 - Basically Dead - Well, he is, basically.
C - 2 - Old Hermit - Perfect description.
I - 10 - Omniscient - I'll give him that one.
A - 0 - ? - You see, the description for 1 is "Walking Disaster." Problem is, he can't walk.
L - 2 - Broken Gypsy Mirror - No one likes the Mr. House ending so most of the time someone's gonna kill him.

Firstly all the NPC's should fit with the actual SPECIAL like the player does. 40 Total.

Plus Legion bias much?

Special of the average ranger:

S - 10
P - 10
E - 10
C - 1
I - 10
A - 10
L - 10

Why charisma at 1? Because being a intimidating badass isn't really doesn't have anything to do with being charasmatic, it has to do with being a intimidating badass.

And just for fun, here's Mr. House:
S - 1 - Two hundred years of no exercise inside of his life support machine have caused clear signs of muscle mass deterioration.
P - 10- Capability to properly percieve what tools and devices he'd need to save Vegas and Mankind
E - 10/1 - Ten if you count everything he's gone through and never given up and survived, one if you go by current physical ability.
C - 10 - Seriously, that voice? That dialogue? That picture? He's the very definition of a high end masculine man.
I - 10 - Graduated from college and founded the vast computer and robots corp. Robco Industries, he prepared to a T for Las Vegas's survival, and his capabilities with odds are beyond amazing.
A - 0 - He's not ambulatory
L - 10 - He went from a betrayed orphan to running the biggest Pre-War Mega-corporation (RobCo) to saving Las Vegas despite cascading software glitches due to the Platinume Chips not arriving.

Fix'd your ridiculous Legion favoring bias. (Don't throw a grump, you knew I'd come charging in when you made those 'House is lame, Legion for teh winz' post.)

If we're doing this, we should stat Marcus. And then wonder why he's not leading the whole shebang.

S - 10/12? - He's a first-gen Supermutant who's idea of a sidearm is a minigun. He also spent 3 days straight wrestling a Paladin in T-51b.
P - 7 - He successfully keeps an eye on nightkin. Before that, he managed to keep a blend of humans, ghouls, and super mutants under his watchful eye.
E - 10? - See the thing about 3 days of wrestling a soldier in T-51b. Add in the fact that he's OLD, and was old then. Tough as nails.
C - 10 - He managed to unite humans, ghouls, and super mutants into a peaceful mining community. After that, he got a bunch of schizophrenic nightkin to obey him without blowing them apart first. Also, voiced by Michael Dorn. Hooray for Worf!
I - 5 - He's nothing special there, but he's certainly not dumb either.
A - 5 - Nothing special there.
L - 5 - Decent luck, other than that one Tabitha incident. But that is compensated for by hooking up with the Chosen One to take out the oil rig...and surviving.

There are a lot of NPCs who's SPECIAL don't quite match what we'd figure they should be.

Hahaha well I'm glad people are responding to this. I know it is all irrelevant but I like everyone's humor. As for adding up to 40 though, plenty of NPCs have SPECIALs way over or under 40. Oh yeah, and I'm not Legion biased, just couldn't think of no one else whose SPECIALs were so off. But I am biased against House, I'm sorry Colonel ;)

I should have a slider that lets me control all combat NPCs SPECIAL. and combat stats.

I can t have hostile combat NPCs that are this weak and dumb anymore.

And you're just as ridiculously favoring House, at least Parablooper's stats reflect House's actual physical state and the fact he somehow, despite his seeming total command of the odds, never anticipates that the Courier might back-stab him. I'd say a 10 PER is a vast overstatement. My version:

S- 1 (he's over 200 years old and his whole body's atrophied)
P- variable; 8 in his pre-war actions, 2 or less when it comes to the Courier's motivations and behavior, 6 concerning his assessments of NCR and CL, call it a 6-7 overall
E- 1 it's all artificially maintained by that cocoon he's stuck in
C- 5-6; he gets high marks for persuasion, but his ego keeps getting in the way; this goes double if you read the end of his self-written obit
I- 8; I'd rate it higher, but he sure seems to miscalculate a lot when it comes to hired help
A- 1 (can't have zero); he's immobilized in that chamber
L- variable; 1 when it comes to picking who to hire as a right-hand-man, 8+ when it comes to having the guy who was supposed to take the Courier's package turn down the assignment, call it a 6

Lanius
S- 10
P- 4
E- 10
C- 4 or 8; the latter if you're in the Legion, the former (or even less) if you're in the NCR
I- 6
A- 8; he sure can move for a big guy
L- 7; he got his post in large part due to the previous guy really screwing up

Legion biased? The stats are accurate representations of the characters.

Vulpes Inculta has 5 across the board, except for his endurance which is 4. I would give him something like this

S - 5
P - 8, he noticed a whole in a tribe's defenses and captured the chieftain through it, he can't be too unaware.
E - 6, he travels the Mojave a lot and is in the Legion, so he must be moderately durable
C - 7, he is pretty eloquent, though he comes off as being creepy.
I - 7, he is definitely intelligent, you can tell by talking to him and hearing about his past adventures.
A - 6, I would guess he is flexible.
L - 5

I hate when people say 'But the courier...' Not everyone betrays him. Just because his 'I'm smarter than you' attitude hurts some peoples feelings, doesnt mean it does everyones. I never once found him offensive to be around. House is pretty much the nicest person compared to multiple characters. Colonel Moore, Lee Oliver, Lanius, and a good other cast of people.

It's like me saying 'The NCR is terrible because it didnt estimate me not being a blind flag saluting dike like every officer in it's ranks' :shakehead:

I gotta say Martyr always comes up with a good point, and yea I also think he is one of the more nicer people in the game, I wish you could come to a compromise to not have to assasinate House in all of the other paths.

Caesar with Intelligence and Charisma of 4 is dead on accurate as it is in the game.

Intelligence of 4 makes sense because he thinks he is emulating the Roman empire by shunning technology and doing suicide wave tactics....he needs to brush up on his history.

Charisma of 4 sounds right. He isn't leading a cult, he is controlling it through brute force. He's just the guy on top of a slaver nation. And frankly I don't find him charismatic at all, he's like obey me cause I said so.

Here's what I think Senior Paladin/ Elder Hardin's S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats are:

S: 8 (He has a super sledge on a display case)
P: 7
E: 10 (He's a very seasoned veteran)
C: 10
I: 10 (He knows what he is doing and he is calculating)
A: 5
L: 5

I put charisma at 10 because he has one of the best quotes in all of New Vegas:

"I want you to deal with these weapon dealers, this Van Graff family....Leave no-one alive..."

It shouldn't be... The game should use those SPECIAL stats for various checks in the game, and I disagree that the stats should be revised to match the descriptions. Some NPCs appearance should be deceptive.
