NPC voices cutting off

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 10:29 pm

So apparently they didn't fix the problem with NPC voices (the sound cuts off for a second now and again, mainly when the NPC is behind the player) some of us had in the beta in the released patch. Why oh why must you always ADD new bugs to your patches Bethesda?!?!?!

Make sure you have the most updated drivers

I can confirm the same issue, started happening in the first beta patch, and still persists, was a known issue and was posted on the forum during the first beta patch, its now in the final 1.4 patch. Updating sound drivers does nothing Bethesda, it is on your end I'm afraid.

Yeah, Ive got the latest drivers for my card and have had this issue, only in the beta. I will try maybe to reinstall drivers or something, but everything was working fine before, idk why not now.

I don't really blame Beth though, it wasn't brought up till late in the beta and not many people responded saying they had the issue. Not really some game breaking issue either, just really annoying to me.

Some have said to change sound settings to some odd setting but I really shouldn't have to mess with playback to get it to work properly, when that may mess up everything else used by my sound card, and I never had the issue before, and have changed nothing going into the beta (that I know of).

<<< Windows 7 64 bit, Sound blaster xfi extreme music PCI, newest drivers, (card is now unsupported by creative as it is "too old")

It isn't the drivers the issue arose during Beta there was a thread that I can no longer link as the section of the forums is gone. We had a collection of different sound cards, onboards and varying configs. In my case I can say that I am using the most recent driver for my sound card(in sig) and this issue started during Beta 1.4 patch and did not exist at all prior. Seems to be directional so whatever was changed with sound caused it and since there are obvious changes in the patch involving sound including the EPIC map wind of doom and it being fixed. Just fix it or don't but don't copy pasta some driver update junk when we posted about it in the beta thread like it isn't a side effect from something changed on your end.

I do have the latest drivers. This is an issue that started with the beta and is still present in the released patch even though several beta testers reported the issue as Thoth (thanks for the post) writes above. It seems a bit weird to me to release a patch with a known NEW bug in it...

As noted, this started for me with the beta (number two I think) when it started with everyone else. I have a Creative SBLive Value card. Using Windows-installed WHQL drivers that haven't had an update (because they don't need one) in about a decade. (Creative basically invented the audio card standards with the early SoundBlaster line...)

After about two seconds of NPC "hello" the audio drops for about half a second.
