I just installed the new ones and it said it overwrote the old ones so I left it as that. Couldn't be bothered with going into safe mode etc lol

I find it hard to believe that Nvidia expects people to go through that entire process. I got a fps boost anyway with new drivers just using their uninstall process.
It's not needed as much as it used to be. Nvidia have improved quite a bit on clean driver installs.

this is a recommended nvidia driver and the latest beta (295.51) svcked. I did not check the 290.53 about performance, but honestly I believe there is an improvement. what do you think of it?

What's the best way to uninstall the old drivers? I usually use CCleaner to uninstall things, but looking at the list of things to uninstall for Nvidia, I had the following: (note I don't use 3D)

NVIDIA 3D Vision Controller Driver 295.51
NVIDIA 3D Vision Driver 295.51
NVIDIA Graphics Driver 295.51
NVIDIA HD Audio Driver 1.3.12.0
NVIDIA PhysX System Sogtware 9.12.0203
NVIDIA Update 1.7.9

Just uninstall everything? And if so, any particular order?

nvida have there own driver cleaner in the driver set up , select custom install instead of recommended and there is a tick box under the selections that gives the drivers a clean install , removing the older driver , so no driver sweeper is needed any more.

driver sweeper, while a freebie, is no longer developed. so it might not recognize newer drivers.

CCleaner, but that comes as a shareware.and not especially focused on drivers.

For me, there is a major increase, nice work!

I have Q9550 CPU with 6GB of RAM and a GF560Ti. Outside of cities, I have 60 FPS all the time with settings on about 90% of maximum, 8x AA, etc. On a "testing spot" in Whiterun, near the Skyforge facing the center, I have had around 28-30 FPS before, after installing these drivers, it's 45 FPS, nice!

And it's not true that there is no difference between the last beta drivers and these new WHQL ones, it is the difference I'm talking about above...

I updated to this driver, now my AA settings in nVidia Inspector aren't working. The game's AA svcks and leaves out things like inventory items, etc. Tried several different things to get it to work, but dunno what's goin on. Anyone else having this problem??

Of course, I have performance increases with this driver, but i'm pretty sure it's because it borked my AA settings. Was using the 290.53 drivers.

ASUS Sabertooth P67
i7 2600k @ 4.5ghz
8 gigs Corsair XMS 3 @ 1600mhz
eVGA GTX 580 1.5gig @ 850mhz/2050mhz
Creative X-Fi Titanium HD
Win 7 64-bit

EDIT: Nevermind, the driver update reset my Behavior Flags in nVidia Inspector. Had to switch it to None. Everything's peachy, not a real noticeable difference in performance.

Ya this is a good point...if you use Nvidia Inspector, export all your profiles (there is a button) before updating the driver, then import when finished the process.

The last two beta brivers worked fine for me and this new WHQL driver also works fine. My fps are a mostly constant 60 across three screens at 5760 X 1200. I am running a pair of GTX 580's in SLI and have not had issue one with SKYRIM from a GPU standpoint right from day one when NV released their first beta for SKYRIM SLI. (Of course the programing for wide screen gaming is not there, thanks Bethesda, not)
As for cleaning up before NVIDIA driver install, they have included an excellent uninstall as part of the new driver set up for the last few years. There is really no reason to do anything but install the new driver and let it uninstall the old one for you and install itself. I used to test and bench Etc doing it both ways but I have not seen a problem in so long that I now just install right on top.

There wasn't a stealth update from Bethesda, was there? With these drivers the glow around nirnroots seems to be totally gone.

Bethesda released a new Skyrim beta (1.4.26) today. If you enabled beta testing in Steam, you probably got it.

Markarth pre 295.73: 38 fps
Markarth post 295.73: 60+ fps.

Needless to say I was a happy camper when I saw the results. :celebration:

I'm not feeling daring enough yet to give them a go, but for the people that do and who notice an improvement, it'd be helpful to know what driver version you were using before. :)

So I don't have to manually uninstall drivers anymore? Sweet, saves me the 2 min it takes to reboot my machine.

Im guessing you are using transparent aa? either turn it off or keep it on and add this to Skyrim.ini:

[LightingShader]
fSpecularLODFadeEnd=0.0
fSpecularLODFadeStart=0.0

Transparent aa is a resource hog and does not play well with skyrims shader system...

Haha, it works good... It will disable the light glow you get on bottles, npc's and the big one in helgen is that the entire walls have that effect applied to them! :blink:

Again transparent aa is not compatible with the light shaders skyrim uses. Also if you want to still have the effect but lower you can reduce the values to say something like this:

[LightingShader]
fSpecularLODFadeEnd=0.0050
fSpecularLODFadeStart=0.0025

^ this will show the effect but only when you get about 2 meters close to an object. Best to keep them both at 0.0 mind or you will get lag again.

This driver was a huge improvement for me since I've been running on 275.33 (I had TDR issues). 2500K@4.5Ghz, 8Gb DDR-1600 CL8, Asus 560Ti TOP

It's much smoother now.
