tested a bit...

windows 7 x64,
gtx 260
8gb, intel 4x 2.6ghz

removed the dll fix for a first test. It runs, that's about all I can say for it.

Put the DLL fix back in place, left the settings on ultra, disabled shadows completely and turned water reflection and refraction quality down to medium,
disabled full scene reflections and full detail reflections. 4x antialiasing, 8x antiscoptric, hdr *on*. vsync on.

runs beautifully.

This was done in 1280*800, full screen. I have a 28" monitor I play on, and this resolution is adequate for me ;)
second display is disabled while I play this fullscreen.

My display is 1920*1200 native res, but.. if it runs more smoothly at a lower res, I'm gonna take it every time.

Did not fix the water multisampling issues, still very laggy with water detail & shadows on high. still needs the dll fix.

However, with a few minor (imho) adjustments, it seems to run very smoothly imho.. and so far, stable.

ps. Fallout 3(?): New Vegas...? Gotta love it.

That said, the things I would like to know from those who are testing/troubleshooting that aren't commonly posted here:

1: What resolution are you trying to play at?
2: Do you play fullscreen or windowed?
3: Are you using dual monitors?

These are all things that can affect the quality of gaming, imho.. especially a game that's built on a ten year old engine.

It is now available for download via the Nvidia web site. Also it got rid of the white dots and black squares for me, also it allowed me to finally use Control Panel and engage x8 AA so thats a plus.

Still have slight stuttering tho......

I noticed some good improvements with the new drivers, Nvidia works fast!

I'm still having heavy stuttering when I'm looking at certain buildings like the power tower in the Helios One for example.

I think the drivers issue is now fixed but I think Bethesda need to fix things from their end too.

i just downloaded these drivers, i actually just got on this site to tell everyone that these drivers definately made an improvement to fallout new vegas. everything was smooth at max settings except for that darn wasteland, WHICH IS THE BEST PART! so i am still gonna wait a little bit longer to play this game personally but chins up everyone! i think we may be getting closer.. i hope.. to a playable new vegas. its about time for all us enthusiastic mother effers with the high dollar cards to get what we paid for. pass it left.

Didn't seem to fix much. The DLL is still required.

This driver release did not fix my micro-stuttering/freezing.

Fallout 3 still has that problem when I look in certain directions, and New Vegas has the same stuttering. After installing this crap driver I decided to roll back to 186.18 to get rid of the stuttering.. Nvidia needs to fix the stuttering. If they made a driver that worked great with it then decided to release a new driver which makes the performance lesser, than its obviously something THEY need to fix.

System Specifications:

GeForce GTX 260 Core 216
Intel Core i7 920 2.7 GHz
6 Gigabytes three way RAM.
Vista 64 bit

By the way, what dll is everyone talking about?

Drivers will not fix this issue. It's an issue with the game engine.

This driver also doesn't completely remove the low FPS drops that occur with higher end graphics cards when around crowded areas. Fallout 3 never had these problems, so I assume it is new vegas related?

With a little tweaking of video it fixed the stuttering in New Vegas. Game playing beautifully at 1680X1050 high quality, 4 aa, 8af.

DLL fix still needed as mentioned, but the game does "feel" a little smoother. Though that may be all in my head. At the very least it did get worse.

This dll fix - Does it mess with my graphics settings in any way? Cause I don't like to downgrade.

this driver update broke the DLL "fix" for me... Now crash to desktop on startup. The 180.48 drivers worked better for my GTX280 then the 260.99 drivers.
