Nvidia GTX 560 and above - Problems?

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 10:49 am

I remember on launch a few people with top end cards were getting bad performance with skyrim. Is that still the case?

I'm looking to upgrade to a 560 ti 448 or a 570, but wanted to see if people still had problems etc.

Thanks for your help :)

I'm using a GTX 580 and I've been having some minor issues. Granted, I'm using a few texture mods, but I would think my FPS should always be near 60. (i've got an i7 2600K cpu)

In fact, I was installing some mods for my friend yesterday, and he seemed to have the same performance level as I do, if not slightly better. The main problem being, when I look around quickly the game lags a bit. He is using a GTX 400 series card, not sure which one though.

I guess to answer your question succinctly, no, I've not had any real problems with my 580 card.

I am using a Gtx 560 ti direct cu 1gb. Runs Skyrim on Ultra no problem. The only issue is the 1gb of ram which means i can't run as many higher res texture mods that i would like. The official one is fine tho along with a few others.

I run both 560 FTW+ in SLI and zero issues. Mind you I only have the HD DLC installed but with everything maxed including shadows. I'am getting 65-75 fps everywhere. The bonus is with the new kill cams there is zero lag from killing move to camera view.

I have a 570 with drivers from last September :P
Works like a charm, from the day I bought Skyrim...even now, with over 60 mods installed (including custom high-res pack, Warzones, static mesh improvement etc).
Together with a Core i7 960, I can run the game maxed-out easily.

I'm having no problems with a GTX 580 at 2560x1600, but I don't use any gameplay or content mods, and I make very conservative use of texture mods.

I have a GTX560 and a 2500K and have had no issues on ultra... until the 1.5 update came out...

Dual SLi GTX580s running 5940 x1080 surround resolution, completely spamming high texture/polygon mods and still stuck on near 60FPS constantly. The 3GB memory on them sure helps though.

I have a gtx590 running the 296.10 drivers. The game runs with smooth fps on ultra, but I am having issues with some annoying shadow flickering since the 1.5 patch.

Only a GTX460 1GB here - Skyrim is a completely different game with the latest patches vs out of the box. Performance has nearly doubled, and the weird mouse acceleration and mouse lag are completely gone.

Thanks for the replies. I'll make my purchase at the weekend (PAYDAY! Holla what nectar yo sup homie) :P

If 10 random people on the tinterwbz don't have issues, then I'll take my chances ;)

Asus 560ti direct CU II 1gb, running just perfect with ultra settings, 4x AA, high shadows, ugrid = 7. Though I can feel that the card is getting tired now that I'm using Bethesda's high- texture pack. Exept that, just fine.

Not when playing skyrim you wont.....one of the reasons i left ATI/amd behind 10 years ago was there crap warranty and there even crapier Drivers...fast forward to today and well ...read the first few pages here...driver fail.

GO Nvidia / EVGA and you will love the fact they actually think their cards should last a lifetime, are fine with overclocking, and give bios updates...

On topic.... I updated a 560ti (1 GB) to 2 580's (3 GB each) because I was filling the 1 GB card with ease, before adding HD DLC. NO problems any more, even the micro stutter is minimal.

I have an eVGA 560TI DS and ever since 1.5 i've been having weird subtle artifacts in the grass areas - but only the grassy areas. Wasn't doing that before the latest patch. So i updated the drivers to 296.10 but still had the artifacts. Later on i got a pink screen of death while browsing the web....something that also happened with the 295.51 drivers back in Feb. You may want to look into "560Ti pink screen" before purchasing. i'm not the only one experiencing problems with this card and the more recent Nvidia Drivers....some have been forced back to 286 drivers before their problems went away. I'll RMA before I go that far back though. If you do decide to buy, you'll want to get the extended warranty is all i can say.

Unfortunatly will just be the 1GB of memory holding you back.

Anyone considering a new card should make sure they get one with a lot of memory on board.

Nvidia 600 series is just around the corner with a tag of performance king on every preview. Why not wait for the 600s?

My budget is about £200, and I've found the gtx 570 to be the best for the money. A 7850 is better in some games as I was thinking 7000 series AMD, but overall the 570 is best.

The 570 has a great GPU processor, which runs much cooler than the one from the previous series.

560Ti and I will have microstutter every now and then if I use the High Res DLC. Other than that running at ultra with 4xAA and 2x transparency AA without a hitch. If I use 4x transparency generally my performance is fine but I'll get some mouse lag in foggy areas (for obvious reasons), so I tend to keep it at 2x for a nice happy medium.

Would the cost really be worth it mate? It's looking like an expensive piece of kit.
