Oblivion Script Extender Will Not Work!

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 10:50 am

Hi everyone,

I am on patch 1.2.0214, and I want to get the Script Extender to work. I know that it does not work with patch 1.2.0214, but I do not know how I get from patch 1.2.0214 to a patch that lets the Script Extender work (I don't even know which patch I need). Can anyone give me a detailed description of how to get the correct patch? I would HIGHLY appreciate it.

Thank you in advance!

Download the latest patch from Betheda's site and install it. I don't think any more detail is required...

EDIT: Unless 214 was the SI hotfix, that might be more complicated.

A) Where can I download the latest patch?
B) I am curently playing Oblivian Vanilla + Shivering Isles Vanilla, so it probbbably is a bit more complicated, which is why I'm asking :P.

Maybe it's just me but this link is only leading me to google googling for "google" itself?... Anyways, this page should be better suiting: http://www.gamesas.com/eng/downloads_01.html#sipatch. Using SI you will only need the Shivering Isles patch to v1.2.0416. As far as I remember 1.2.0214 is the version got when installing SI, no beta or anything troublesome.

Alright, I found the 1.2.041 patch (http://www.gamesas.com/eng/downloads_01.html), but when I try to install it tells me that no older file was found, and the install does not happen. It does tell me to untinstall Shivering Isles Beta Patches, but I'm not sure if Shivering Isles Vanilla ( 1.2.0214) counts as a Beta. If not, I do not know what the problem is.

I did exactly what you told me to do, but it would not install because it" found no older file". BTW, I just remeberd that I have the Game of the Year edition of Oblivion, if that helps...

Alright, I have managed to patch up to 1.2.0416.

Now, I know this has nothing to do with the old post, but could someone maybe show me the standard mods I should get? Is there a list or something?

Yes, there is a very large list, most of the list is found http://www.tesnexus.com.

Good luck, because I have a feeling you're going to need it.

So you don't miss anything important, you want to grab all the Unofficial Patches (UOP, UOMP, USIP), which are essential fix mods. Before that though, you need some utilities: OBSE is a common requirement for mods, and BOSS helps sort your load order, which is important. You need a mod manager, so get Wrye Bash. You might also want to get OBMM if you come across any mods that are only available as OMODs that you want to install, as OMODs are an OBMM-specific format.

Wrye Bash has a learning curve to it though, so you probably want to also grab the Wrye Bash Pictoral Guide, and take a look at TESIV:POSItive for a more general modding intro. Some might tell you to get OBMM instead of Wrye Bash, but Bash > OBMM for installing and managing mods nowadays, and you'll need it eventually anyway, so you might as well start with it.

The rest is up to personal preference.

-----

You're going to have to start doing things yourself a bit more, taking initiative and researching stuff if you want to successfully use modded Oblivion. All signs so far point to you lacking in those essential skills. There are some very nice people who might hand-hold you through everything, but it's far better if you actually understand what you're doing, and that requires some effort. If you don't put the effort in, you'll have big problems somewhere down the line. There's plenty of guides that are a very big help though, so you're not alone, so long as you don't mind reading.

By way of explanation of what I mean, it's things like searching for the official patch and information on how to sort any problems you might have before asking people. This is the Internet, if it exists then there will be information about it online, and there's also plenty about stuff that doesn't exist.

As a matter of fact, I just spent 3 hours trying to get a mod to work. At some point I realised it required OBSE, and then I spend another 2 hours trying to get the right patch for OBSE. At that point I just gave up, and asked.

With BOSS installed to you Oblivion folder, just double click on the Boss.bat file.

Wrye Bash (an EXCELLENT utility) also has a little button to run boss.

It does, I wrote it.

Also, HeyYou's information is out-of-date, in 1.6x there is no BOSS.bat.

Im kinda lost o.o Everytime I look for a mod, I get 10000 files, and I don't know which one to get :S, especially since they all require 1000 OTHER mods to work xD

Im mainly looking for mods that:

Improve UI
Improve atmosphere (landscape, animals, realism, options)
Add Stuff do to (Quests, Guilds etc.)
Allow further Character modification

Are there any specific mods you guys could reccomend?

P.S By "options" I don't mean the options you get in the menu, but for example when I finish the main quest, I wanna have an actual gain from that, instead of just a fancy armor, stuff I can do AS champion etc, if you get what I mean :).

Check out the various flavors of DarnUI mods for that. I use DarkDarnUI, and love it.

the unique landscapes project will dramatically alter the look of your game, I don't know about performance impact though, suppose that depends on your machine.

Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul adds a fair number of quests, and will DRAMATICALLY alter game play. (kinda unlevels the world...... the game is no longer player-centric, but, location-centric, further you are from civilization, meaner monsters will be, I think that's right) If you like that idea, install FCOM. Adds a LOT of content.

It's really difficult to answer your questions for several reasons, not the least of which is your lack of playing experience would make it difficult to appreciate the advice. (I know this sounds harsh but it is not a criticism of you—it's merely an observation that one has to play more of the game to understand the intricacies.) :spotted owl:

As an example you mention Champion. Are you also Master of all the guilds? A Knight of the Nine? Ruler of Mania and Dementia? Are you the Prince of Madness?

Many members here have never finished the Main Quest and yet have played for years.

If you use http://www.tesnexus.com/ you can search for MODs by the categories you listed. There is a drop-down menu int he Search Screen.

A quick scan only a few pages deep in this forum will reveal several threads recommending MODs.

You have already been given the best advice about using OBMM and Wrye Bash (I use them both) to manage MODs. Perhaps their greatest value lies in being able to remove an installed MOD.

There is plenty of documentation on them but the best learning tool is to experiment. The best advice I can give you is to 1. Install OB to any other folder than 'Program Files'—or a separate drive. 2. Once installed, make a copy of the game directory and all sub directories. Then you can always go back to a known working game.

I think you need to do some reading before you make ANY changes to the game. First thing would be the Mods FAQ at the top of this forum. It covers the basics of finding, installing, and using mods. Even that isn't a complete picture though, and http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/ will expand on that some. (also some redundant info, but, perhaps presented better?)

Also, mods generally come with documentation on what is require for installation, and to make them work correctly. There are also tools and such that you are going to need, in order to manage your mods. Educate yourself before you jump off the deep end, and hose your installation.

I've completed the main quest, I have become Prince of Madness, I've been Lord of Dementia and Mania (not at the same time, obviously) and I have completed the Dark Brooderhood very often. My problem is that once I complete all my quests, I get bored quickly, because without quests there is nothing to do (is there?) everytime I get bored with Oblivion I uninstall it, then come back to it half a year later and start over again, doing one full run through (Oblivion Main Quest, Shivering Isles Main Quest, Dark Brootherhood - somehow I never remeber to do the Guilds).

What is there to do apart from Quests? And how do you exploit the humoungous world, considering that you can just fast travel everyhwere, once discovered?
