If Obsidian wanted to set a DLC in a location from FO 1 or 2

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:21 pm

This poll is more directed towards the people who played Fallout 1 and 2 before Fallout 3, but everyone can participate if they'd like. I've seen a bunch of differing opinions on this. Some would like to see Obsidian's take on what past locations are like so many years in the future, some feel that they should just be left alone, and some feel like visiting them again would do more harm than good. I'd like to see how everyone feels in regards to this topic, and to those of you that would like to see a location from Fallout 1 or 2 in a DLC, what locations would you most want to see? List them and explain the reasons why you'd like to visit them again.

Note: This is not a thread to suggest brand new locations for DLC! Stick to locations that existed in Fallout 1 and 2 please.

Again, I'd rather have locations they didn't include in Vegas from Van Buren as DLC's rather than old locations we've already been at.
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Dogtown
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Boulder
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Reservation (I don't believe Repcon is Reservation anymore after seeing the space-ghouls)
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Ouroboros (VIPERS!!!!!!)
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Twin_Mothers
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Circle_of_Steel
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Burham_Springs (But maybe Bitter Springs is this place)

No I'm still gonna go with this one.

We've already been at the old locations, why not make some use out of the DLC's to bring as much as we can of Van Buren forth?

Let's move forward, not backward, says I. There's a whole lot of America left that Fallout hasn't visited yet.

I'm sceptical of seeing already seen locations. The recreation of, say, Vault City or NCR (two of the easternmost locations in Fallout 2), for example, would feel off from both architechtural and sizal (is that a word?) point of view. Their size was an abstraction of something much bigger (which worked in that style of gameplay), so creating them in 3D in the new even more compressed (DLC) form likely wouldn't do them any good, imo. Same goes for almost all other locations.

I'm not saying a definite no, but I don't believe it would be a good idea.

And to be more exact, I wouldn't want to see any DLCs set anywhere, but an expansion that offers much bigger possibilities.

Which one was that from, Fallout or Fallout 2?

While I enjoyed the quest and storys in Fallout and Fallout 2 (And Fallout 3) but theres a twofold reason I would rather new places:

Reason 1: I just don't want to revist an old location for nostalgia. This is the USA, and with a little creativity, there is ALOT of potential places to newly discover for us Fans.

Reason 2: Fans. Some of us, like myself, can openly tolerate anything as long as it isn't just terrible (I think F:BoS is an example of 'terrible'). And then you have the rosey tinted goggled nostalgia fans who will outrigt upose any form of 'updating it. Then you Also have to bring into fact that, whether the person reading this agrees or no, Fallout and Fallout 2 are very vague in town description, as they only show key parts of a town, and I'm sure there is so much more to see than the game shows, and thats where a fans interpritation of a town is varied from how a developer sees it.

All in all, I don't want to backtrack to an old game, but if we visit a location and it isnt half assed, I'm not to objective.

This. New Arroyo would be the only location I would be ok with. I don't think I would be thrilled to see New Arroyo. It's a location that should have it's own game based on it. It was built by the Chosen One and the people of Vault 13 and Arroyo with at least one geck possibly two gecks. It is said to be hundreds of miles from their old vault (Vault 13). It had awesome looking buildings with power and gardens. It should come with an awesome story about how the Chosen One :D. Maybe NCR has taken it over?

Every other location I don't want to see. It would need alot of time to make the vaults look the way they do in the Originals. I don't want to see Vault 13 or 15 looking like they do in FO3.

What I would like to see are more Van Buren Locations.

A few months ago I suggested a journey into the depths of the Grand Canyon: weaving your way down degraded donkey trails, facing radiation that'll make your toes curl, and beastly mutants never witnessed by human eyes.

That would be awesome. To see some of those lost uranium mines that were build in the canyon after the USA government removed the Park protection from the Grand Canyon. Maybe there are still active mines down there :D.

The Boneyard.

Specifically Hollywood.
(I've said this before, but ghoulified movie stars clinging hopelessly to their "beauty" and maybe even a Nicole Richie VS Paris Hilton-style feud that's blown into an all-out war would be plain awesome)

If you've read Just a Pilgrim, deep trenches (The Marianas, which is admittedly far deeper than the Grand Canyon) are one of the last places on Earth that can host vegetable life and clean water.
Certainly there could be an argument made for a culture of miners (human or otherwise... robots were intended) that have maintained the mines for these last 200 years. Of course that could mean another Supercomputer or AI villain...

Hmm, for a DLC, I'd like to see a reappearence of New Reno, if only so that I could possibly meet the Chosen Ones http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Bishop_child or his/her child, who'd mention his/her awesome father/grandfather. Heh.
