Obtaining chainmail byrnies : V

Is there any way to obtain the chainmail byrnie armour worn by city guards without killing a guard?

It's my favourite armour since chainmail was removed. Is there any unique guard armour you can get for doing hold quests like there was in Oblivion?

Checked the city barracks? There's some in display cases in some Jarl's Palaces, such as Dragonreach.

Alright thanks, I know for a fact I can take stuff from Dragonsreach without having to steal.

Does anyone know their material type when it comes to smithing?

You can get parts of the Whiterun set off various bodies near the Western Watchtower, and Salokhnir has always had armor and helm on him when I've killed him (14 times now.....)

[How bad is it that I read it as "chainmail bikinis".... Hey, it's EARLY here.... *sigh*]

Usually some guards get killed fighting dragons or other enemies so you should end up with plenty of guard armors.

This is a little dirty, but fun. Cast fury on one of the two guards outside the gates from cover. They tend to attack each other and one of them ends up dead. You didn't so it, and if they didn't "witness" you casting it, you don't get a bounty.

The closest armour you can make to guard armour is the advanced armour scalemail.
