Odaviing

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 3:55 am

All right I'm in the main quest where you have to capture Odaviing and force him to tell you how to get to Sovangarrd. I can catch him easily enough but as soon as I start talking to him he clams up after the second question shows up on screen.

Im on PC so if there is a console command to fix this let me know. You will have to be very clear on how it works as I'm not so good at computer stuff.

Or if I can simply force the latter half of the conversation by letting him go that is an option as well. The current save game is starting on the balconu but prior to the fight. My minion is at breasehome as I was trying to work around this last night and couldn't figure it out. Prior save is from before I left breasehome when I left her there.

According to UESP:

On the PC, it is possible to use the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Console to advance through the quest by entering setstage MQ301 stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest using resetquest MQ301.

According to the info there, the console command

setstage MQ301 220

should advance "The Fallen" to the point where Odahviing has agreed to help you but you have not released him yet. Releasing him would then be the opening move in the next stage of the Main Quest.

Not sure if any of these apply in your case, but here's the list of reported bugs with capturing the big O:
  • Odahviing may stop moving and become invincible once you get him through the doorway.
  • When Odahviing is captured, he will not talk to you. There is no option of talking to him, and he remains an enemy. This occurs after Vignar Gray-Mane has become Jarl but the Companions questline has not been started. Even after becoming Jarl, Vignar spends most of his time in Jorrvaskr. Simply do the first Companions mission and Vignar will leave the building. Once you get back to the Porch to summon Odahviing, Vignar will be there and the dragon will be captured properly.
  • In some cases, when the player speaks with Paarthurnax about Odahviing and directly heads to the Jarl of Whiterun and defeats Odahviing without agreeing to start the next quest, an indication arrow requests the player to return to Esbern to receive information on how to lure Odahviing and will not clear indefinitely.
  • Odahviing sometimes becomes hostile after releasing him. To fix this, simply exit the Great Porch, wait a few hours inside Dragonsreach, and return to Odahviing.
  • After trapping Odahviing, you may fall through the ground and in turn be stuck under the map. It seems to be caused by standing under or near Odahviing when the trap is put into place. To fix this, simply fast travel, then come back.
  • Farengar will not appear if you have killed him, but the NPCs present will still register him as being there, trying to obtain a blood sample or some scales from Odahviing. The NPCs will say their dialogue for this scene, but Farengar will say nothing.
  • Odahviing may get stuck at the entrance to the courtyard and is unable to move forward, toward the trap.
  • Odahviing will only fly around Dragonsreach and it'll be impossible to attack or interact with him. To solve this exit room and wait for 20 hours then re-enter

Thank you for the information. Went back to the older save only to find it was corrupted as well. Reverted to yet an older save, hopefully when I get back to that point I can get past it this time.

On my PS3, trapping Odaviing in Dragonsreach was hard. I got him into the "hangar," and into the "yoke," but he would keep bucking and phasing through the yoke and I couldn't get him to meet the conditions to talk. Eventually something happened and he snapped into place and everything moved forward as normal.

After he tells you to trust him, you're supposed to think about it briefly then talk to him again.
If you don't trust and release him you can't go any furhure in this quest.
Some times it can also be a bug. If it is just restart the game.

Re-played 8 hours of the game to get back to the same place as the previous save mentioned in my OP was also borked.

When I got back to him this morning I had to use the command after he was captured as like I'd orrrigionally stated he shut the [censored] up mid way thru his monalogue. Damned broken ass game.

I's been awhile but I think I had to talk to the guards and the Joral first.

This sounds like it's exactly what I need.
I'm trying to do the "Shrine of Meridia" Quest (I've done it before with no problema) but this time after raising me up in the air and talking to me she won't set me down so I can't continue. I've tried everything but nothing works.

How exactly do you use these RESETQUEST MQ301 and the SETSTAGE MQ301 commands and where can I get the scene/quest/mission numbers at so I'll know what numbers to enter for whatever quest I'm on?

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:The_Break_of_Dawn

Bottom of the page lists all the quest stages. Open up the console which will be the ~ key at the upper left of the keyboard next to your 1 key unless you've changed it from the default setting. Then enter the quest stage code you need to advance the quest like as follows:

setstage DA09 300

At least she didn't drop you. I've had that happen twice now, once on PS3 once on PC. from that height it doesn't matter how many HPs you have.
