Odd Anti-Aliasing Issue

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 8:02 pm

Hey, I didn't know where else to go here.

Recently I updated my system, picked up a new processor and ram so that my video card would actually get full usage. The game runs BEAUTIFULLY with one exception

I have my game on ultra settings, and it's absolutely stunning. I use 1260x720 resolution (native for my monitor) and get more than enough fps that i don't see any lag.

However, if I am using ANY anti-aliasing, the bulk of textures on buildings, and some objects become completely see through and I can see the sky or whatever (incredibly obvious in during the rain of fire opening sequence). with anti-aliasing turned off, no problem.

Now to be perfectly honest, this does not ruin the game for me one bit, just curious

Below is a speccy readout that may help

Sounds like you have transparency antialiasing set in your CCC or somewhere that alters driver settings.

I'd suggest setting everything in CCC to default, see of that allows normal AA to be set in the game.

you had similar problem to mine just turn off antialias is useless in this game, i have very good rig for playing but with antialias on i see many glitches like framrreate drop, or buildings you ve mentioned, to say more with antialias off i can use UGRIDSTOLOAD 11 or even13 withourt single crash (it gives you extraordinary view distance).
So dont worry turn that [censored] off you will not see any visual quality difference.

I opened up CCC, there is a gaming section and an option for Anti-Aliasing. Currently it's set to use application settings, and the filter is standard.

I'm enjoying the game as I type and probably will not notice a difference, its mostly a curiosity, and partially a fear of the problem becoming worse or reoccurring in another game

Watch that ugrids, with patch 1.5 it broke all my old saves.
AA is fine for me BTW. AAx8 and no problems.

They are not broken SIr , just make these steps:
There is a fix for this, which is to load the game at the higher setting and then do the following lines at the console:
setini "ugridstoload:general" 5
saveini
refreshini

Then save and quit, and change the uGridsToLoad to the desired value.

It happens when you use Adaptive AA. Just set it to Multi-Sample AA in CCC.

Tried multi-sampling AA, did not affect the issue.
thinking trying the grids to load, however paranoia is holding me off

Rook, don't mess with the uGrids. If you ever change your mind to alter the uGrids back to the default setting, it will corrupt your saves. I have heard of a way to prevent this, but
it's my rule of thumb to not mess with things I don't know much about. My computer breaks much less that way.

I had a similar problem. Played through like 90% of the game with no problem, then one day I loaded it up and a whole bunch of little squares appeared. It was like the graphics were breaking down. Sometimes it was like one or two, other times the screen was covered in them. Then sometimes i would see these triangles and sections of walls and floors disappeared.

Anyways, I don't know why it suddenly failed like that but turning of Anit-aliasing fixed it.

Which 6800? how much on board memory?

...also AA is not useless in this game! especially with the 1280x 720. my monitor is the same native. ive been back and forth with the 1920x1080 with no aa and 1280x720 with x4 ssaa, i prefer the later

Hello,

I'm having the same issue, after the latest Skyrim patch (and the latest ATI drivers).

Has a fix been found?

Same here, glitch occured after 1.5 patch and after the 12.3 catalyst driver. I deactivated AA and the bug disappeared so I can confirm this as a solution, too. However the glitch didn't occur with activated AA before the patch.

I'm not having this problem, I have the latest skyrim update and the latest official 12.3 amd driver.

Are you guys sure you installed 12.3 properly and didn't just update the driver?

Yes and updating any driver hasn't caused any problems so far. W7 is in this case def more stable and user friendly than XP. Every other game on my PC is running without any problems with the 12.3 catalyst driver: BF3, F:NV, DE 3, ...

Skyrim with patch 1.5. is the only game causing troubles so far (with activated AA of course. Without AA ,it runs smoothly on 1680x1050 and high details)

I had a similar problem, just turned off Adaptive AA in CCC and it fixed it right up.
Also confirmed this wasnt an issue before the patch.

Seems now I get a bit of stutter when looking at light sources though... Maybe I didnt notice it before is all though.
