Okay fine, I was wrong

Last night I finished the Civil War quest, this time from the Imperial side. Somehow, from the Stormcloak side I'd gotten the idea that I liked Tullius better than Ulfric. But man, what [censored] Tullius is; and Ulfric died with honor, which made me feel guilty; "Let the Dragonborn do it, it will make for a better song". He says that when he's about to be executed when you win the battle of Windhelm.

And when you go back a few days later all the deposed Jarls are there to let you know what a roach you are.

Ulfric's body is still there too. I had taken his clothes and put in on a mannequin. I didn't think they'd leave his mostly naked carcass in front of the Jarl's throne. So I dragged him into a side-room.

Back to Tullius. This'll be my last run-through with Skyrim. I've done the game to death by now. I'm going to do the Thieves and Assassin's Guild quests as well as the MQ again and then that'll be it for me. The last thing I'm going to do though is to go to castle dour and kill everyone in the room and every single Imperial that comes busting through the door. I'll be difficult to kill to kill at that point as I'll be well above level 50.

It's going to be tremendous carnage... Can I kill Tullius now or will he just keep regaining health over and over again like so many other NPCs in the game? Whatever the case, he's getting the blade.

Ulfric in the imperial civil war campaign is very much like a Milton's Paradise Lost Lucifer: the fallen hero we all feel sympathetic for. This is only when you choose the imperial side, of course.

Figure out his baseID and set him as nonessential and enjoy.

I've done the Civil War story from both sides, and while I'm not entirely happy with either outcome, I have trouble liking Ulfric. I don't think he died "with honor"; the jerk didn't even take up arms in defense of Windhelm when it was under attack, all he cared about was his legacy. I'm not saying Tullius is a great guy either, don't get me wrong, I could do without either of them. But seeing how people in Windhelm are treated, I think they're better off without Ulfric.

Bummer. I'm on Xbox... In some distant future when the next TES game appears, I'm doing it on PC. There's not a lot I would modify but once in a while I do run across things that I think could be better. This is one of them.

Well, he his the top dog. Historically, kings don't actually do the fighting and to find him dead on the streets by the hand of some anonymous Imperial archer would be anticlimactic. His right hand man sure was easy to take down, and boy, what a crappy weapon he had. Not only that, it turns out he was like 75 years old---or at least that's how he looked when I took his belongings.

And no discount for the house in Windhelm. Come on homie, how about a lackey's discount? I know that discounts don't exist but it would have been nice.

My decision to back the Stormcloaks was based on the fact that the Imperials were going to execute me without any kind of trial or explanation at the beginning of the game. Why would anyone side with the side that was going to kill you?

I treat the Imperials like they are the Empire from Star Wars. lol

Exactly. Tullius stood by and was totally fine with killing you even though they had no idea who you were. Also, who was the first person to help you when the dragon attacked? It is Ralof that helps you.

When you go back to his sister's mill and listen to them talk, you get a strong sense of family and love with them. You get a sense they are fighting for something they truly believe in. With Hadvar and his uncle, I didn't get that feeling. It felt more like a soldier just following orders. I laughed out loud when Hadvar suggested that I join the imperial army. He actually suggested that I give them a chance. Really? Like you guys gave me a chance when you were about to cut my head off for being in the wrong place at the wrong time? Nope, Ralof got it right when he told me "you have seen the real face of the empire now."

I found that Hadvar is actually a much nicer guy and more of an honorable brother in arms. Ralof is a rather bloodthirsty twit.

On the other hand, my character is usually an insane, psychopathic, megalomaniac, who enjoys playing tag with the children of solitude.

I chose Stormcloaks cuz I wanted Tulius' pretty armor after I killed him.

Stormcloaks would be alot sweeter if it involed more Thalmor murdering... :)

Yeah, it is some cool armor. And I agree. They should both unite and take down the Thalmor instead. I hate the way they think they're better than everyone. When I see them travelling on the roads, I get my kicks by slaughtering them all. lol

'let the dragonborn do it, it will make for a better story'...such vanity, even when faced with death all he can think about is looking good in bards tales.
