Old World Blues location (May have Spoilers)

Post » Sun Feb 13, 2011 6:29 pm

There has been talk about the Big Empty actually being Area 51. I believe that it is the Cheyenne Mountain Complex in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I know this is kinda off map wise but arera 51 is located in an old lake bed and the fallout wiki states that the Big Empty is located in a mountain.
What is your opinion ad where do you think it is?

Cheyenne Mountain has appeared in previous games and has been destroyed, confirmed beforehand in Fallout 2 as well.

Wheverer the place is, it's to the north, between Vegas and the California border, and very very large. Area 51 is a good option. Graham said it was open, but might as well have been a wall to any living thing that attempted passage.

Kinda contradictory to actual border locations as Vegas is relatively close to the California border.

Yeah but it's among the many things preventing the NCR from moving any forces in from the North. Everything has to come through Mojave Outpost. Now, what's north of Vegas, between it and Cali, and one of the most highly guarded locations in both our world and theirs?

Fallout is a alternate universe, so Area 51 doesn't have to be the same thing or even in the same place. Fallout 1 and 2 had a bunch of military bases that didn't correspond to real-life locations.

But the most common argument I've seen for the Big Empty is Big Mountain (get it, Big MT). In the cancelled Van Buren project there was originally a military facility based on the Big Mountain pass in Utah. That material was later merged into the Tibbets Prison design.

Okay, I'm going to say it again, one hyphenated word: Salt-flats I think it takes place out at the Bonneville salt flats. Maybe there's a secret base out there, but I think it matches up to description (Big and empty, as well as storms and such) and location. (roughly north of vegas, though also kind of east)

But the divergence takes place after WWII. The Area 51 facilities were already in existence by 1945.

Aren't there any files in HH's BSA that indicate the location of the next DLC? Like the snow globe for HH appeared in DM's BSA?

Actually the border between nevada and california is to the south. If you look around in nipton you can actually see the border marker in there...

Who cares?

The snow globe for the expansion will have to list a real world location: all the snowglobes refer to a real-world, pre-Great war location, the only one being for a fictional location being the Sierra Madre casino snow globe.
I'm sure when it comes out, the Snow globe will at least give us an idea of where the Big Empty is. At any rate, it won't say "Big Empty" on it.

im almost definite that it will be in Big mountain. just sound it out

Big empty = Big mt. = Big mountain. Big mountain is a real location in Nevada, and has some sort of Military base in it.

As to how we get there on the map, i'd say the Mojave outpost.

Kinda contradictory to actual border locations as Vegas is relatively close to the California border.

Vegas is not all that far from Area 51. http://www.lasvegastourism.com/area_51.htm
Also there is a link between the 2, there is a terminal just for workers of area 51 as well as a jumbo jet. So it is by no means contradictory at all, as Zion is further away from Vegas than A51. http://usparks.about.com/od/travelitineraries/tp/Driving-Distance-And-Drive-Times-From-Las-Vegas-To-Selected-National-Parks.htm
Also Area 51 is not in any dlc, I asked and was answered during one of the q&a things for New Vegas. It svcks and is a major missed opportunity for them but whatever, they could be saving it.

I loved it, had a great 50's alien vib that went with the game. Though it could have been better, I would have liked to have been abducted while sleeping in a bed or going down a road at night.

The CA/NV border extends along the entire western state line.

Just so everyone knows, Primm is RIGHT on the border for California and Nevada. Basically once you leave Primm you are in California.
