I thought the only way you could get the bars was with cheats.

When you are in the vault, pick all the gold bars, after remove all bars from your pip boy, and you can see just one gold bar in the room (warning: in some case the gold bar can be desappear: save a lot of time if you don't wont lose the treasure of Sierra Madre).
Make this before you chose to controll the PC, after convince Elijha to enter in the Vault, but where you don't have interest for the treasure. When Elijha enter with the elevator, you use a Stealth Boy and TOUCH (not pick, TOUCH), so you can see now the gold bar fly. Now you can RUN LIKE THE WIND out from the Vault, but... Warning: take carefull because when you run the gold bar can fall down and you can loose the treasure. Also take carefull at the end when you going in the 2 last rooms: the explosion can loose the treasure, and the doors next to the elvator are close, so you need to touch they, but take carefull beacuse you can "pick" the gold bars in your inventory.
After when you arrive at the end, touch the gold bar next BEFORE to enter in the elevator.
Of course this "cheat" can be a success if you run like the wind.

You can use Elijahs body to drag the bars along, I just think of him as my flesh backpack.

All you have to do is drop them by the security door,, defeat elijah.. run around the area, stand by the door you dropped them at in 3rd person, grab the bars and slowly walk to the elevator before the timer runs out. This is a really old exploit and there's tons of videos on you tube on how to do it.

Or you can just sneak by him using a Stealth Boy, there's really no cheating.

heh getting them on the 360 isn't all that hard. I've done it several times.
