Once you go mage you don't ever want to go back

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 9:09 am

I seem to be heavily addicted in playing the role of a mage.... or more appropriately... a battlemage. I realize just how much more room I have in my inventory if I don't have those heavy armor/weapons on. When I kill an enemy I can have more storage to store their armor/weapon to sell to a nearby city for gold.

Anyone else has the mage fever? Since I got my arch mage title, and gear I can't seem to want to take it off.

It's amazing how people complain how bad it is to play as one, but in fact it's pretty cool

Mine's the opposite. An Orc who wants to rebel against family and peer pressure to be a heavy armour two-hander, and instead go to the College in Winterhold and study magic.

I'm using Better Magic mod http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=4374, which puts magic on a par with weapons and bows. i recommend it if you are on PC.

Like the OP, I'm not sure I can go back to standard weapons now.

I have always liked magic the best in this series even tho I feel magic is not what it once was in Skyrim, I still Luke it better than weapons.

There's nothing cooler than an Orc 2h hander and the smashing finisher.

Mystic Assassin up in here! To me, Magic is essential, especially Invisibility.

I was just a regular Assassin class and then my Breton Assassin got interested in the College of Winterhold. Kind of weird considering that I avoided the place like a plague back when I was doing the main quest.

You know, I don't have mage fever in Skyrim. That's unusual for me. I usually play a mage as my primary character in any game that lets me, be it Baldur's Gate 2, WoW, or Dragon Age. But in Skyrim they just feel... lacking. To me, anyways.

I just started a Conjuration-heavy character, my first mage, so we'll see :D

Maybe the missing spells and spell creation. That has made me dislike magic more but I still like magic but its definitely not as good as Morrowind and Oblivions magic systems.

That's probably part of it, but I don't think it's all of it. In the games that I mentioned, when I play a mage, I feel squishy. But I also feel like I have incredible power at my fingertips, just waiting for me to unleash it. I don't get that feeling in Skyrim.

I understand what you mean, when I make a pure mage I fully intend to try to be a glass cannon if you will.

I do think magic has taken a massive blow with the loss of all the spells we once had and spell creation just destroyed what the Elder Scrolls magic system was, a system full of myriad options that allowed us to customize and tailer our mages how we wished for them to be.

I read the title as "Things you don't ever want back" and walked into the thread totally confused about all this mage talk. I proceeded to go back out and try to find the thread I actually wanted only to find that I'm dyslexic.

I made a mage, he was fun, then I made my stealth, rogue type character that I always make. I can't shake away the days of rogues owning in WoW PvP to ever play a Warlock (before they were op) or any other magic user again.

Mage is fine, but not the most fun. Too much fiddling with different spells and the glass cannon syndrome. Battle mage is better, sneaky archer is great fun, and warrior is fun as well.

Actually it is light armor. Gives you 90% of the protection for 10% of the weight. I like Heavy Armor, but they made the high end light armor too good.

I feel the same way I usually go warrior, rouge, Mage ( best for last) but when I went mage I found it frustrating and boring my mage got underpowered boring and repetitive really quick

Once you go Conjuration you never want to go back. rest assure that you will LOVE the practice :)

in general.... I notice that as a mage I became lazy when fighting. I tend to use my poor Demra lords to do all of my dirty work.

Like others have stated, I too usually play a mage type char in games that allow it. Even ME lets you play an Adept. It's just that Beth changed the Mage so much in Skyrim. And by killing the Spellcrafting, that I was use to, it just doesn't feel the same.

New players may enjoy it. But even after 1000+ hrs, I have yet to get my Destruction skill out of the teens.

love mages, playing my second one who is a pure mage, conjour, destruction, restoration, a little illusion here and there, its fun to shoot lighting out my hand i feel like a sith lord, hard to go back to useing swords and such but still fun to cut a guys head off, just depends on what mood im in, sometimes its magic and sometimes i just feel like getting up close and personal. both are good in there own ways

Meh, I like the sword and board characters more. I find a pure mage to be kinda boring.

heavy armour has a perk to become weightless, so unfortunity its light arnour that leaves you wondering why your using it endgame, since the best weapons are grouped under heavy armour if your planning on maxing its got to be heavy, i prefer light armours tho, always have, fur and leather for the win i like astetics over just pwning. light armour does have that great stamina perk tho.

That's all I needed from Bethesda that I couldn't do in Oblivion. IE. Have a spell AND sword out and useable at same time. Skyrim lets me do this.

Once I get my Bretons look down I'll finally start playing that style.. lol.

Some do, but a Battlemage is a mage that specializes in Destruction magic, so armor is irrelevant.
