One for My Baby - Quest Broken

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 5:00 am

I have a problem with the above quest where I accidentally spoke to one person, that person left his/her place, and then by speaking to him/her before he/she got in front of the dino, the person is "stuck" outside. As it turns out, I later discovered that was not the real person who I needed to speak to. But now the dialogue option for the right character is gone. Can anything be done without reverting to a prior save (many, MANY, hours back)?

Spoiler
I accidentally asked Briscoe to come outside, and I followed him outside, spoke to him hoping to tell him nevermind, he is now stuck outside his shop. He will not go back in. So not only is the quest screwed, but so is the situation with Briscoe's shop -- he cannot set up again. I went to talk to Jennie Mae, after finding the evidence, and cannot -- no matter what time, fast traveling away and then coming back, etc. -- get the right dialogue option. It doesn't matter where she is, what time it is (always when Boone is on duty, though), the option won't come up. I read somewhere that once you ask one character to meet you in front of the dino, it disappears for all others. This seems like what happened here. There seems to be no way to get Jennie Mae over there at this point.

Any ideas or help? gamesas?

No way to reverse it short of loading a prior save. This is a good example of how not to play an RPG. This is not a bug but you're still somewhat screwed (unless you have a high speech skill) out of having Boone as a companion.

Moral of the story: Save more often than every few hours.

I agree it's not the right way to play without saving often (it's actually my son who did this, not really me...I have
Spoiler
Boone
as a companion). But it IS a bug when
Spoiler
Cliff Briscoe
stands outside his store and says "Come back when it's open" all day and all night and won't go back into the store. Anyhow, it is as I suspected, so my kid is probably going to just say "screw it," because he doesn't want to go about 10 hours backwards. It's too bad though...

There's no need to start over. Cliff is a very minor character in this game. That quest, while required to open up his later companion quest, is not need to proceed with the game. It's entirely possible to play through the rest of the game and not be effected by this in the slightest. The only thing he might miss out on are a couple weapon mods.
