Ok, so I asked in another forum but no one answered, guessing they didn't know. So I thought I'd ask here.
So I like to use a one handed sword, without a shield but the thing is pretty much every hit is getting through block.
Is there a certain way to do it? Do you have to be a certain level with one handed to block effectively? or is it a perk I need to get? Cause atm it feels so pointless using a one handed sword... and it's my favourite In oblivion you could block pretty well once you level'd block up, but it looks like blocking is just for shields in the perks.

Level block up to raise its effectiveness.

I'm certain you take less damage when blocking with a weapon, but you take even less damage when blocking with a shield. If this is correct, then it's a pretty logical progression of blocking proficiency.
