opening quest

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 9:56 am

if theres one thing i could change about skyrim, i would say the game's start for new characters should be varied. after completing it for the first time, i think you should spawn in a different location and situation. i think it would be really cool if you could choose your starting city. after doing the first quest once it gets pretty redundant and lame. i dont want to go to whiterun or retrieve the damn claw with every new character. i think it would make the game start less of a grind after doing it once and would make starting new characters a lot more fun.

I would like it if the different races had different beginnings. But I would prefer them to just work on making the quests better throughout the game, as I can RP my characters beginning.

You don't have to go to Whiterun or retrieve the claw. I just pretend the whole Alduin fiasco didn't happen on some of my characters, then go to a different city and use that as my starting point.

It would be cool to unlock a new start after completing the MQ once. Though after 50 or so hours, I can handle the 15min run through of the tutorial dungeon, its no biggy.

I kinda agree a different starting place for each race would be very intresting, but would have probably involved thousands of hours or work.

As someone else already aid I'd rather they expanded the main & guild quest story lines. Maybe given you more options as the quests are very linear.

But hey can't complain too much this game really is epic ib terms of content, and with an active imagination there is plenty os scope for RP.

Actually, I think it would be interesting if you started out at the Solitude docks. You design your character, start heading to the market and suddenly you hear this earth-shattering sound. A few moments later, you find Ulfric Stormcloak running from the Blue Palace.

Of course, this would put more emphasis on the Civil War questline than the current main quest, but I think that it would be cool to have it seem like the Civil War is the main thing to be concerned about before Alduin shows up. Even better, have Alduin show up after Torygg's death and tear up (but not completely destroy) Solitude. As you progressed in the story you'd see Solitude be repaired and fixed. It'd be neat.

I agree the start of the game is a real drag even the first time through for me, I wouldn't fallow ether of those jokers nor would I allow my head to be put on the chopping block without a fight.

i'm outta helgen so quick it doesn't really bother me. I rarely go to whiterun or riverwood first depends on the characters back story that i create in my tiny little miiiiiiiind.

I liked the way Morrowind handled it: make your character, pick up your papers and - boom! - you're outta there and on your way.

In comparison to oblivion's start it was a tl;dr version.

Morrowind had the best intro IMO.

I agree. In a world where you can 'be who you want to be,' immediately shoving the main quest down your throat a la Oblivion and Skyrim and singling you out as a 'chosen-one' type figure straight away is a little contradictory. Morrowind was perfect - you're an ordinary person hopping off a boat, and at the end of the character generation you're nudged lightly in the direction of the main quest. It doesn't feel as if you have to go do it straight away, whereas Oblivion and Skyrim were more 'OMG THE WORLD IS ENDING DO THIS IF YOU WANT TO LIVE'

the only games in the TES series that have bad openings are oblivion and skyrim and like chastity said at least in oblivion you can make a save right at the end of it and go from there.

Yeah, that was something Skyrim was missing. I was definitely expecting that screen at the end of the tutorial when you could totally change your character like you could in Oblivion. I don't know why they removed it, it made a good way to skip the tutorial in future play-throughs for Oblivion.

Heck, during the first part of Morrowinds MQ they tell you to go out and do some random stuff!

The only thing that's missing is an autosave right before you exit the dungeon and when you exit, the possibility to create your characters appearance again. Just like Oblivion.

You people keep saying that Skyrim is forcing the MQ down your throat, when it does not. You can rush ahead of Hadvar/Rolaf and screw Riverwood altogether you know.

Of course we know that. The point is that from an RP perspective it makes little sense to do so.

What, this isn't any different from Oblivion's or Morrowind's intro.

You go trough all this, then bam, open world.

Don't want to go to whiterun, then don't do it.

In fact, in many cases that seems to make more sense...

Easy solution. Just save the game right before they guy says "Who are you?". The you can return to that spot and make a new character whithout the buggy ride. You do still have to do the escape, but that's a good time to practice new skills you are trying. It doesn't take that long anyway.

It is not the same. In Morrowind you signed some forms and were free to do what you wanted, you did not have to go through same dungeon each playthrough and Oblivion gave you the chance to change at the end, so you could make a save and not have to repeat the dungeon.
