My Opinion Of Rage

Before i start. Let me quote myself, before i got the game, in response to the IGN review.

In reply to someone saying "ID lost it"

"id never lost it. rage will be amazing, im sure this review is unfair. it has much more content and charm than call of duty and so on, much better technology too. id have never made a bad game, 8.5 is a ridiculous score considering they hand out similar scores to 2d puzzle games you'd be bored of in 5 minutes. "

And in reply to:

"Game has an 80 avg on metacritic. Anyone who thought ID who have not made a great game in 15 years, would make a great game are kidding themself. This game had average from day 1 written all over it. Only a few blind really devoted fan denials because they want to justify their purchase. gameplay is average even if you ignore the poor characters/story. "

I said:

"15 years? you dont think quake 3 arena and doom 3 werent massive successes? you dont know what your talking about and probably were in nappies 15 years ago. i can see immediately that the characters, gameplay, gunplay and environments are far more detailed and have been loved far more than anything bioware or the likes of infinity ward have created recently.
ID software = commander keen, wolfenstein, doom, quake and rage. each iteration of these games have been amazing and have led the market in their time. imo the only thing that will stop rage doing the same is the likes of IGN's corrupt reviews. "

So... I was your biggest fan!
But you lost him. Boy was I wrong when i actually got to play the game. What a mess..

This game is pathetic. A middle finger to all PC gamers. When i started playing the game my jaw just dropped at the visuals.. and not in a good way. Everything is an absolute **** mess. It looks like, once upon a time they intended to have decent quality textures, but they have just absolutely BUTCHERED their game to sell copies on console. I mean, it is horrific. Every single texture other than characters and cars (you can ride) is a dirty blur. Early in the game in an inside environment, huge pictures hang from the wall. you cannot see a single detail in any picture. You have no idea what these pictures are of, they may aswell just be smeared with **** although im sure even that would look more defined that what we have. Its not just bad graphically though, even with an nvidia card and absolutely perfect 60fps, i still get ridiculous texture popping EVERY SINGLE TIME i look left or right (with latest beta nvidia drivers). Music doesnt loop properly, itll randomly finish and then start in the middle of the track. There is mouse acceleration. The mouse speed in the game doesnt correlate at all to the mouse speed in the menu, or for example when you need to accept a quest, the menu mouse speed is about 10x faster so buying/selling/talking to people/handing in quests etc is buggy and awkward. There is no console, no graphics options, no available field of view option.

The reason rage svcks so much is because they compromised SO heavily on quality, to get console sales. ie, it svcks because Carmack is greedy. You get the impression that they had no idea how this new technology would work on consoles, had this 'target' of 60 fps and great graphics on the consoles. Later the found that the consoles cant handle the engine for **** They had to destroy the graphics quality of the game just to get it to market, and they simply couldnt be bothered to make the PC version any better.

What annoys me the most is that you crapped up the PC version to sell copies on a console, infact, you totally take the piss out of the PC gaming culture who made you who you are. And its not like theres a need to, its not like you couldnt make a really great game and still make a handsome profit on PC, its just greed, which is even more dispicable.

So, thats the last time i support id and buy one of your games on the basis of your reputation and my enjoyment of q3a and doom 2.

Regards.

Oh no lets not...
How are we meant to immerse ourselves in this?

There is no excuse not to have textures of atleast this quality on PC. (taken from metro 2033, 2 years old)

yea, this is a great game on PC. I'm running at 1920-8AA and it stays at 60 fps. I think it's the best game Id has ever made, though I cane to the party late with Quake 3 . Playing on normal is pretty challenging. At 1st i thought it was like Castle Wolfenstein but now I think it's a lot better-get the game!

no, it really doesnt. you think fine = 7 year old technology, it doesnt.
We buy PC's for better quality graphics, and if they charge full price for a pc game, thats what we expect. because pc's are far more powerful than consoles. if all your new ps3 games looked like ps2 or ps1 games because they were stilling selling on ps1 so they dont care to make it better for ps3, but they still charge you the same amount youd be angry.

besides, go look at the 3 screens of rage, and compare it to the metro 2033 screens (proper pc game from 2 years ago)
