Opinions on my Knight build?

This is meine latest concoction, the knight, the noble dragon slaying maiden saving handsome variety, not the evil death ones everyone seems to be obsessed with.

I used the Morrowind class of the same name for reference, basicaly a young warrior of noble stalk who fights sword and board, and dabbles in the healing and enchanting arts. I'm going with Breton for race because:
A. High Rock, and it's lore, fits a Knight perfectly
B. Bretons, although magic oriented, have the strongerst racial abilities in the game, suited for a warrior
C. The name Roderic is a Breton name, and an amiably suitable one for a knight (Ser Rodrik Cassel anyone?)

I also intend on using the knightly steel plate armor, with a steel sword/shield to the end game. Preferably not skyforge as I cannot see this character as a Werewolf.

So beloved community, on a scale of 1-5... how good is this build in relation to Practicality, and Roleplay. And yes I do intend on joining the Dawnguard with this character.

A lot of wasted perks, you should never use more than 1 point in shield wall or any perk that does critical damage as the extra damage is so low. I find any perks in speech to be a waste too especially the ones you have like passing speech attempts and bribing guards. Also why do you have enchanting at only 2/5 and not chosen the block runner perk?

Someone else who takes persuade and allure for their 'good' character. I approve so very much.

Only problem I can see is lack of ranged, can't do the knightly thing with the dragons if you can't get them to land and fight you.

Well to adress your points:
  • I'm extremely picky with numbers, don't know why, which is why all the whatver/out of whatever are two or four (except smithing)
  • I do not go into any of the critical damage aside from critical charge
  • The whole speech thing, yes borderline worthless however Knights are often well spoken individuals, and allure, persuasion ect fit the Knight persona, more of a roleplaying thing
  • I find the block runner perk to be... kind of useless. Why would I need to move faster with the shield raised?

That's a valid point, and you can blame Game of Thrones for that. Somewhere in the books, it mentions knights having a distaste of Archers and Archery in general, something that applies to my character as well. As for the Dragons, they do land eventualy so patientnce is the name of the game. I also like challenge of a pure melee build.

Good-looking build for a knight. I love that you stuck to the skills a knight would actually use instead of adding silly things for the sake of making the character more powerful. Archery is definitely not out of the question for a knight, as well.

Edit: Just saw your perspective on archery, and I can see where you're coming from.

I like it, give it a 4.5/5. Personally I'd take the points out of enchanting and put them in two handed, so he can be proficient with two types of weapons. A knight has to improvise and do the best with what he has sometimes, you know.

Just leave the enchanting to those stingy mages all cooped up in the safety of their studies.

Why do football players tackle? It's basically that type of move. Good for a tank build, at least thematically.

I actualy considered the very thing you're suggesting, however, in the end, how useful is it to carry around two melee weapons that essentialy do the same thing (close quarters combat, then again, how handy is speech :P) which is why I never use one handed and two handed together in any of my builds.

I hate the mindset of making a character as absurdly powerful as one possibly can. It's just such a pointless outlook... I can one hit everything and nothing can hurt me... what's the fun in that?

I generally like the build, though I am wondering what your stat spread is for this build. As such, what ratio of Magicka:Health:Stamina will you have when you level up?

As for the perks, I mostly like it, though there's some that just don't feel right... But at the same time, you can't help it. Bribery, for example... that's just placed poorly on the perk tree, you can't help it since you need it to get to the perks that make sense for your character.

All and all, I like what I'm seeing though. What enchants are you aiming for with your gear?

Totally agree. For me personally, a great deal of the fun of games like Skyrim is my ability to connect with the character I'm playing. Being all-powerful, or always taking certain perks for every build is a huge disconnect for me. Also, even with "inefficient" builds, it is still easily possible to have a powerful-feeling character.

MHS ratio... let's say every five levels... two in health... two stamina... one magicka. Yes Bribery makes no sense but like you said, can't do much about it, and who knows, may come in handy for a character that'll never join the Theives Guild. And Enchantments... I was thinking completely buffing out in Magic Resist to essentialy become invunerable to mages (the bane of existance for these melee type characters). Probably element resistances thrown in somewhere to.

So, a 1:2:2 build? What stone are you gonna choose?

So, you're gonna overcome your perk spread by using an overpowered enchant setup? I can see blocking boosts, 1H sword boosts, heavy armor boosts, and some magic defense, but not a full overcoat of it...

Stone, that's easy, warrior at first, then the Lord (wow, this is starting to defeat my whole view on being OP'd...)

Boosts in the various skills, could work. Why not? I've never really gone into enchanting with any of my characters before so wel'll see what happens.

Lord makes a lot of sense for the Knight. That also means you can have one Resist Magic buff and totally blow off boosting it any more, since then it'd start getting OP again. Focus on thematics for your enchants - the Shield could boost blocking and fire, for example. Also, name your armor based on the build. Put some lore behind it. The shield, for example, could be specifically made to protect against dragons.

EDIT!: Double checked the first post. HIGH. ROCK. You're a BRETON. Don't even waste your time with resist magicka! You resist 50% innately! Grab the lord's stone and call it a freaking day! Focus more on making a set of "legendary" armor, with mostly thematic enchants. But jeez, man, you wanted to have a magic resist focus on your gear when you're already a magic tank? Overkill much?

To clarify: Breton (50) + Lord's Stone (25) + Agent of Mara (15) = 90 magic resist. The cap is 85!

Edit2: I've got some suggestions for gear for ya.

Sword: You're a just knight, so you'll want some holy-themed stuff, right? Have your sword enchanted with Turn Undead and Banish Daedra. Alternatively: Dawnbreaker.*
Shield: Going with the themes of the game, I suggest an anti-dragon shield. Resist Fire, Resist Ice. Alternatively: Spellbreaker.*

Armor: You might as well not bother with any Fortify Heavy Armor enchants, since you wanna try avoiding any OP setups. You're already largely immune to magic already, thanks to race and thematics, so you're gonna wanna at least not max out on physical defense as well. I suggest Fortify One Handed, Fortify Speechcraft, and maybe some Fortify Restoration in there.

Jewlery: Don't wanna be op? Rebreather. A simple Waterbreathing enchantment on your necklace, maybe with Fortify Carry Weight as well. For your ring, I suggest either Fortify and Regen Health, or Fortify and Regen Stamina.

*Dawnbreaker and Spellbreaker are both Daedric Artifacts, iirc. Dawnbreaker is totally 100% good, so you don't have to worry about aligment at all on that one. Spellbreaker, on the other hand, deals with shades of grey in its quest. You may not want to do it in the end.

Finally, NEVER USE FORTIFY SMITHING, ALCHEMY, OR ENCHANTING. Those three are sure-fire ways to get crazy OP crazy fast, so don't even bother with them.
