Opinions on the main quest (spoilers)

What's your overall opinion of Skyrim's main quest? I thought it was excellent, it didn't feel as short to me as it seems to feel to others. I think the final battle with Alduin could've been better if Alduin consistently used many different shouts and if he had more health then he did. I also wish that the Grey beards would've forcibly taught you at least half the shouts, and then let you find the rest for yourself. Because all they really teach you is about 5 shouts and they send you on your way to save the world. I thought shouts were supposed to be practically necessary in order to kill a dragon single-handedly, it just made the process of trying to find all the shouts seem like a waste of time. I shouldn't be able to kill Alduin with a sword, a shield, and dragonrend. But aside from the way the fight with Alduin, and the fights with dragons in general, were handled, the main quest was superb, and getting sent to Savengard was really cool, especially since I got to see Ulfric there after I killed him at the end of the Imperial quest line, even though he didn't really deserve to be there. And I also wish there was more of a reward for completing the main quest, and I think the NPCs should've acknowledged that I saved their sorry butts, but oh well.

Ending was shabby. The final battle is incredibly easy, and I felt like there was a stage missing between being dropped off in those ruins and reaching Sovngarde.

Also, "riding the dragon" was ridiculous. I WANTED TO FLY GODAMMIT

I loved the main quest, but I feel I was a little underwhelmed. :/

I feel there were some missed opportunities. It was missing that "MegaTon" moment the Fallout games had.
I was always expecting at least one city to become destroyed by dragons, because I felt that would be more realistic/impacting. But surprisingly, the dragons didn't touch a thing. I just saved the world, and everyone says "World is saved. Lets continue with our lives."... I expected a lot more impact from the dragons.

So, besides that, I loved it. It could have been so much better though.

There was a city destroyed by a dragon, and I think that was one of the most epic parts of the game. It really should have happened again.

I loved the hell out of it, but it's worth mentioning that I've spent a considerable amount of time learning the lore of Tamriel and about subjects relevant to the main quest of Skyrim specifically, and I think that's a major point in it. I understood the main quest and was totally thrilled nearly every step of the way to see the lore come to life in such a beautiful way.
