Optional lvl 20 cap trait

Post » Fri Jun 10, 2011 8:04 pm

Okay, so Obsidian is going to give us a "trait" in OWB that allows us to cap at lvl 30 or whatever our current level is above lvl 30.
Since they "are" going to do this, how about giving us an optional lvl 20 cap too?
All the perks at 22, 24 26 and 28 change places to 20. (As it's the max and only allows for one more perk.)

So, do you think they should do this?
I for one does not really want to go to lvl 30 or above.
I want to cap myself earlier, so that I have to choose even more carefully what perks I'm going to pick and what skills I'm going to max.

(Again, optional, not forced, not the default, it's completely optional.)

I approve. And add a "Very Slow Learner" (XP gain -50%, atleast) perk while you're at it :hehe:

Or you could just use Here and Now at level 22, Computer Wiz at level 24, Infiltrator at 26, and Swift Learner at 28 and 30. There, you wasted 10 levels of perks.

I'd really like to fight the enemies, not the game itself.

How about we have an optional double perk rate trait as well. Or an optional level 100 cap. I mean, if they are going to cater to those who want to nerf themselves, they should also cater to those who want to feel like a god in game.

I don't want to gimp myself anymore, I've already done that for months.
I want to be able to play as I want to and hit a cap fit for my playstyle.
Not at some point just go "Sigh, do I really have to gain a level?".

They should also cater to those who want to feel like a god in game.

They are.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't see why so many of you [censored] about this.
They're already giving a 30 cap, might as well give a 20 cap.
What harm would it be to give a 20 cap too?
Too many options?
And what harm could come out of that?
There's four options with this:
Cap at 30
Cap at 20
Cap at 50
Take the 30 cap at lvl 31-49 and cap then and there.

It's the developers fault that they couldn't balance the game, so they should at least give us the means to balance it out ourselves.
For me a lvl 20 cap would be a great help towards creating balance, without gimping myself.
And I'm sure there are others (while in a minority) that would love to cap themselves at 20 for character specialization balance as well.

I just don't understand why people go :meh: about it.
It's not like it's an optional thing that is overpowered or unbalances the game.
It's meant to balance it for certain players.

I agree, they should spend some effort to balance the game. But why cap at every ten levels? Why not at 25, 35?

I wouldn't really be against capping at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and then instastop.
I'd only use 20.
Might use 15 on one of my 10 INT + Educated playthroughs.

But I think that if they are going to go with that that they should just give us a perk that says "This perk caps your current level."

What really makes me frustrated is that PC users can use a vast variety of mods to tweak the game to be balanced for them.
The least Obsidian can do is this thing, I mean, they're already giving us a 30 cap, that shows that the "can" allow us to cap at a certain level.
So why stop at 30? If it's possible for them to cap it at 20 then go to town on it, give us it.
I know, I'm a console player, my fault I couldn't get it for PC.
But that's no reason to discard this request for optional balance tweaks.
If they're giving us one optional balance tweak they might as well give us one more.

(And I'm fully for the slower exp gain as well. Wouldn't use it as I don't think I get too much exp, but some others want it so sure, give it to them. I'm all for optional things to nerf players)

I for one thinks that the stop at lvl 30 trait is stupit, better stop at lvl 20 so all the hardcoe players are happy... stop at lvl 20 keeps it original

Ps i'm gonna stop at lvl 50 with my main charater... so don't shoot the messenger

Modding is one, but they should also consider people who *liked* their system, and use this opportunity to address players who have exp issues.

I am simply frustrated at the fact that we are 'punished' for liking the character development ends at what the vanilla game offer us.

I think that's going too far. Obsidian offered a thumb and now you want the whole arm.

A lvl30 cap makes sense because that's the original cap. It's one trait, it's doable. Having a version of this trait for every 10 or 5 levels would just be messy. Maybe if they were to make it so the one cap trait brings up a window that lets you select your level, but i'm guessing it's too late for that.

If you want that kind of freedom, you should consider PC gaming.

A level 20 cap sounds good to me.

In my opinion the ultimate would be a system where you could choose to level cap at any level you want (1 to 50).

I keep hearing about the trait that stops leveling at a certain level. why a trait? is there going to be an advantage/disadvantage thats' worthwhile?

why not make it a perk?

End of the Road - available after level 10.
Choosing this perk caps your level at your current level, and allows you to choose one more, final perk.

i suppose for level lists it'd either cap you permanently with whatever level you stop at, or maybe operate at maximum level list.

Too good?
It's not about being good or bad at the game, I just want to have certain limitations to my character so that once I hit the cap it'll be unique.
Right now I get too many skill points and perk choices, and my characters end up the same.
So "hardcoe"? "Too good"? I know you're being sarcastic but this has nothing to do with that.
I just want each of my characters to feel unique, to have their own pro's and con's and to be different builds from one another.
Allowing me to limit it at 20 means I'll think more about what perk it is that I want for each of my characters, and what skills I should focus on and which to leave behind.

I wish they weren't doing the trait, it's silly. They are doing the option in the first place, it should be patched in as an on/off switch so no matter what DLC you have you don't have to have the increase, and you can cap at whatever level you like bellow 50 levels. Also, if we can only simply change our traits and not just receive the cap in addition to the 2 traits, why the hell should we have to give up a trait in order to not unbalance our game?

The advantage is you get to rework your character and redo all your perks and skill points. The disadvantage is your capped at level 30. At least this is what I have gathered from the trait.
