Our Gaming Budget?

Post » Mon Aug 22, 2011 10:39 pm

My budget is way lower than what the industry would like, I'm sure, but with the times being what they are....

How do you like this list?

I'm so glad the open world games I love from Bethesda give me the most bang for my buck. It makes my decision easy.

Most multiplayer games also give a lot for their money, as long as you don't buy a new one just because it's new.

The only game I'm getting for the rest of the year is DXHR, and maybe Skyrim and some things off the Steam winter sales.

Battle Field 3 is a very good-looking game. Buying it will surely give you what you seek.

The only game I'm buying that has been announced is SW:TOR and maybe GW2.

EDIT: I should probably point out that it isn't because I like MMOs (I really don't), but because no one else is releasing anything worth what they are charging.

There is a very simple solution to all of this, and that is to not buy all your games on release day. Most games aren't worth the 60 bucks they're charging for them, so the price goes down quickly on those games.

Whatever my budget, it's not enough to justify the eye-watering £130 that Bethesda wants for the Sykrim CE. I thought it was bad enough that some collector's editions were approaching just half that amount... :o

Nonono, you missed my point.

That has nothing to do with it being new. A game that is new shouldn't be bought just becuase it's new. It's hard to explain.. But it's just that way. You shouldn't buy a new game just because it's new. :teehee:

Meh. Looking at that Q4 list, the only thing that's a definite is Skyrim. "Maybe" on Ratchet & Clank All 4 One (only if it's decent singleplayer campaign; focus seems to be on multiplayer :meh:) or Rage.

Definites for me are:

Forza 4
Dark Souls

I think I had like $500 of games preordered for the rest of this year... although I think a few of them are scheduled for a 2012 release.

Deus Ex Human Revolution and Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclock for tomorrow.

I could do just fine this year getting DXHR and Skyrim. I was also looking to get the new Red Orchestra, which looks awesome by the way, but I don't have to get it.

I have got 0 games this year. Why? Because I have no clue what to get. There are some good games coming but I'm not sure. I crossed Skyrim and MW3 (For sure) off my list. Might just wait for Mass Effect 3 now in March. Might be getting Men Of War Vietnam. Battle Field looks promising I will wait for the price drop. I’m not much of a gears fan but they have put a lot of work in it. I think I will wait a bit too.

Edit: I have never played a good zombie game so maybe dead Island. To many 2012 releases

My gaming budget isn't exactly huge, but I make it work by buying games months or even years after release. There's really no incentive to pick up a title at release for $60 as opposed to waiting a bit. Most games not published by Activision tend to drop in price like crazy after a few months. Buying a game at release is something I reserve for only my most anticipated games or when there's a really good deal going (e.g. Deus Ex: Human Revolution for $35).

I'm also very picky about which games I actually buy period. I can't justify buying most shooters, sports/racing games, etc. and because I don't rent games I end up skipping 'em entirely. That giant list in the OP had been whittled down to what I think will be the best, most memorable titles releasing this year and I was left with maybe five games, two of which I'll be getting on day one. That's not gonna break the bank.

Edit- That's also coming from someone that owns a PC, PS3, 360, Wii, 3DS and PSP. If I owned fewer platforms then it wouldn't even be an issue.

Skyrim
BF 3

Same, plus:

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations

Those are my must haves. Skyrim being a definite day 1 buy! I may split the cost of AC:R with a friend who also loves the series. BF3 is a toss up. If I have the disposable income, I'll be getting it sooner rather than later but that's hard now that my rent is $600 vs the $300 /month I have been paying for the last 8 years. Not near as much disposable income sadly.

Resistance 3
Rage
Battlefield 3
Uncharted 3
Skyrim

I have little to no interest in anything else on that list.

Batman: Arkham City
Rage
Skyrim

ummmm, maybe Battlefield 3.

There are 4 games I look forward to that are released before the end of the year, it won't cost me that much. Two of the games will be relatively cheap and one of them I will get for free :P
  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution
  • El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron
  • Ico & SotC HD Collection
  • Skyrim

The only games I'm buying are Arkham City and Skyrim. It doesn't help that I do not have a job yet, but I still have some graduation money left. There's about four other games that I want, though, but they should make good Christmas presents.

I'm getting maybe 3 or 4 more games this year. I just don't buy games as often anymore because I'm making the ones I already have last longer, plus working now so that means less time playing. New games would just end up sittin on the shelf, except of course the ones I really want.

In my humble opinion, you should get Rage for free too. I got some great Visa gift cards last Xmas, yes 2010 Xmas, and because Skyrim was announced, I just hid them away for 11.11.11. That definitely helps.

Batman: Arkham City
Rage

I forgot to add Rage in my OP but B:AC is also a highly desirable title, yet not in the same league as my first 3 listed. I have started B:AA 3 times, and lost all 3 saves do to PC failure or my own stupidity. (You need more than just the game saves thanks to GFWL. Without the encrypted GFW file, the saves are duds.)
