Overcoming over encumbrance!

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 9:37 am

I have just made a brilliant discovery. Something which I hadn’t thought much about to the point that I just assumed it was other than it really is. You CAN ride your horse while you’re over encumbered! That is truly a revelation for me, I am so chuffed I have found this out! :)

I am sure a lot of you who knew this already are tutting and looking skyward right now but I honestly didn't know and was like a wee kid at Christmas when I found out!

I new you could ride while being overloaded. But what was a revelation to me, last week, was the fact that you can fast travel while being overloaded on the horse.

I was just about to ask this. Good to know. I still wish horses had saddlebags you could fill with loot.

This has been said before but yes it is useful (might be nerfed but who knows.) personally In reality if I couldn't carry something... Id chuck it on the saddlebags of my horse so yes its feasable too....

example...
dwemer ruin... came out with a weight of about 2000+ ? with weapons and armour and dwemer materials...

made my way out by eating veg soup (unlimited power attacks for 12 minutes) and power attack (faster than walking) to the exit... getting on my horse... and returning to town...

must have got about 300-400 dwemer metal ingots from that along with more items than I could sell in several holds!
needless to say I was rich for putting up with over encumberance for 1 dungeon... i could buy several houses with the money earned lol

defo need something to spend money on though... I could now outfit the ENTIRE stormcloak army with legendary ebony armour... or deadric if I had the hearts! =p
now if only 1 could make an evil character and create your own personal army of deadric armour wearing minions... (due to lag reasons id be happy with 4-6 followers like this as an "army" but that would be cool) burning villages like one of the evil deadra you read about

Wow, i never noticed. Thanks for the tip. Shadowmere is always showing up when I need him most. This just made him more useful.

1k gold? expensive?
killed 5-6 giants yields that much gold in gold loot alone!

1k is alot at the beginning but before long (just picking up all the fur armours and selling them) you will get that much money (very) quickly...

i have not been over encumbered yet, the 300 pound (at minimum) limit is just too high for me to get anywhere near the max i can carry

I find it difficult to imagine playing a TES game without being over encumbered at some point! You must not have a lot of money...

This was true, IIRC, in Oblivion too. But, I will just usually use a potion or something to get me to the point of unencumbered, then just fast travel. The fast travel system won't let you start fast travelling while encumbered, but even though the potion would wear off long before you got to your destination, notionally, the game lets you fast travel even so.

Can't kill giants yet, I'm playing a thief right now. And how I'm playing I'm not doing the tricks like banish daggers or going around buying reagents to sell potions. Only reagents I use are ones I find or steal, and I'm spending most of my money on locksmith training I want 70 bad. Money is a ton more hard to make this way but it's more fun.

If I can't kill giant yet I'm sure as hell not killing a dragon. Not to mention at this point my character could care less about the dragons, when he finds out about shouts through the townspeople he will go dragon hunting he likes power.

Go to where Giants are and lure them to the nearest place where there are Bandits then they all kill each other. I always do this type of thing when I am at lower levels.

Drop your heaviest items and tell your follower to pick them up. Load a corpse up and then raise as a zombie. I don't think you can use the carriages tho.

Find The Steed Stone it gives an extra hundred on carry weight.
