Overwhelmed.....

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 12:43 am

Maybe I'm just OCD or anol or something but I find it hard to leave whiterun or other small beginner areas because I feel like I don't want to leave unfinished business there. I mean this is my second toon (first one I deleted about level 20. I am now level 30 now and sometimes hate it when I have a ton of quests spread out all over the place. I have a hard time trying to figure out what to do next. It's a good thing I know but damn!! I've played MW and Oblivion and never really had that weird feeling where I didn't or couldn't decide what to do next. I like sticking with a quest line and gathering all the lore because if I break from it I may not remember exactly what is going on if I come back to it 5 hours later..

Anyone else have this inclination?

Advice to loosen up??

I suggest just realizing it's just a game. :P All those quest will be there when you get back.

You are rewarded for going off the beaten path in this game, go explore! There are dozens of random quests on the roads and in caves upon entering. :D

LOL, been there! I suffer from MCCS or Multiple Character Creation Syndrome, and usually have 3 to 5 going at one time. Heck, I've created some in Oblivion & Fallout 3 (after I've played the games enough to know where all the quests start) that I start the game, run all over the map getting the starting objective of every quest I could triggered, and then scratched my head with where to go from there. So don't feel alone, lol.

I'll just try to find the one I like most, have done the least or even the one that has the closest objective to whewe I was at on the map and start from there. It's also times like these that a strong RP back story on my character helps me decide what to do. Don't worry, you'll figure something out, and be back in the swing in no time.

Yes there are, but you have to be extremely careful, and many things you do can break other quests and you're unable to finish them if you do. Hopefully, the upcoming patch will fix some of them. If not, modders will as soon as the CK is released.

That's interesting... I was all "When the hell did I post this?" for a second there. :teehee:

Anyway, the quests in the game have no time limits typically. You can get told by a quest NPC that "This is urgent, you need to do this right away, or X will be in serious peril!" and the quest will still be waiting for you there in 60 ingame days, or whatever. Just take your time exploring, and you can find the quests in your quest log later.

I hear ya, personally I just decided not to be so precious with my character (first one at least) and just go with it.
In most RPGs I see the first character as kind of a test run, it's a full and rewarding game, but don't expect perfection or smooth sailing, and a lot of these wrong turns and unexpected results are a big part of what make these kind of games awesome anyways :bunny:

An MCCS sufferer here too. When I first bought Skyrim, I must've done at least 50 restarts after leaving Helgen. Then when I started finding out about features like Smithing and chopping wood for money, the number of restarts increased exponentially.

I suggest making a list of skills in the game, then choosing four or five skills and sticking to them. Perhaps this is the downside of not having a class system. It leads to chaos.

I picked up 'The Legendary Scourge' too early in a cave and now the game wants me to get it from the same chest I got it from already. No book in there, no duplicate, but the game will not recognize that I have it already. I used the console to get past it. So at least one quest can be broken.

I should say though, that has not stopped me from wandering around aimlessly. Love it.

Well, a lot of that has to do with luck tbh, and most of the things that are more easily broken than others are smaller quests.
Especially if you don't want to spoil your game by checking the wiki or w/e, you gotta roll with it, and not cry too hard unless you run in to game breaking (or mq breaking) bugs

Jimmy - joined 2011, I think we're done here :P

And on-topic, the quests all seem to have a false sense of urgency, but just don't start any new quests in an area once you've done all the one's you already have.

Is your screen name a reference to 'A Song of Fire and Ice?' If so, you've got a good head on your shoulders

I keep creating multiple characters, but over time, they all end up playing the same way.

Doesn't seem to happen all the time. I've seen that bug with one of my characters too.

Spoiler
It might be triggered by entering Yngol Barrow for the first time while doing the Helm of Winterhold quest. If you go grab the Helm of Yngol first, and then do the Winterhold quest, it should work fine. Plus, the dungeon for the Helm of Winterhold quest gets assigned randomly from eight or so different dungeons, so you might not have found yours there.
