Own Shadow

Post » Fri Oct 07, 2011 2:46 am

Hi,

I just started to play Rage and I really get pissed off, that there is no own shadow of the player available!

There are a lot of present games, who are able to display the players shadow!!

And who once have seen a game with own shadow, who knows, how intense the reality feeling is!!

Best example is Dead Island, where a huge shadow is thrown all over the walls and ceiling, if a lamp lies on the ground and the player stand over it !!

It just makes the game expierience much more intense!!

Please, ID software, think about making a patch wich is able to display the players shadow!!

Thanks, if you do so :)

Greetings Pit

I'd like this but i don't think its a big deal. Game is awesome without it. Nightmare mode alot of times feels like a horror movie... so this would add a little to the feel but honestly.. i'd rather have even higher resolution textures then this.

If you're referring to being able to edit the graphical settings, then yes there's no options for that.

How does a difficulty level make the game feel like a horror movie?

When you die almost instantly... a single wrong move or enemy popping out can kill you quickly making every move you make more tense and heart pounding.... So you tend to be more fearful of enemies and when they pop out of unexpected places its a desperate fight for survival sometimes with you running the other way LOL.

No I wouldn't have moaned about the own shadow on a commodore or AMIGA, cause their processors were to weak to calculate them !! And I played all games on these 2 computers!! :)

But nowadays this should be state of the Art in game developing!! The computers are fast enough to calculate the own shadow and it raises the expierience of realisitic much more, than any other feature !!

Just see Dead Island for Example!! There are lots of situations, where you get shocked in cause of your own shadow !! :) Thats great !!

or you remember the sequence in DOOM3, where you walk with the lamp in your hand through the finsterness?? GREAT !!

And a game with such good graphics and so much sunshine like RAGE should be produce the players shadow as well!!

MY OPINION ;-)

Omg, no player shadows? That clearly means John Carmack has failed the universe, is a bad programmer, is totally lame and only wants our money to go into space and fight demons in space.
